[bug] Menu generate error if root element are added

User can add some "root" element in the menu and it generate white page.

A new menu entry (from polylang) can also be added and break all "fr" pages:

The error in the logs:

[bug] Timeout when saving large menus

What is found in the logs:

PHP Warning:  Unknown: Input variables exceeded 1000. To increase the limit change max_input_vars in php.ini. in Unknown on line 0, referer: https://www.epfl.ch/schools/enac/wp-admin/nav-menus.php?action=edit&menu=9

and

PHP Fatal error:  Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in /wp/5.5.9/wp-content/mu-plugins/EPFL_jahia_redirect.php on line 61, referer: https://www.epfl.ch/schools/enac/wp-admin/nav-menus.php?action=edit&menu=9

As the page shows the cloud flare when it time out, it might worth to check cloudflare settings too.
