The website does not have an direct link to the GitHub repo main page. I would expect it to have a "Fork me on GitHub" banner or something similar so that users can easily go to it. So I'd like to request that such a banner, or something similar, be added.
Users can get to the repo by clicking on "Downloads", "Wiki", or "Bug Reports", but those aren't the obvious thing that people would go to if they just want to "get to the GitHub repo."
Itβs embarrasing to admit this, but this is what Korath World-Ships used to look like.
should be embarrassing
There's no music... It's kind of cool and what space really is like, but I would still enjoy a soundtrack.
I would enjoy writing that soundtrack.
Do you guys need a soundtrack?
As mentioned in the title I ripped the layout and all from the ES website as it is and simply adapted the existing Ship Builder website at https://endless-sky.github.io/ship_builder.html to work within the content area in the layout the other webpages have.
All features work just like before but with a new look.

http://endless-sky.github.io/ links to https://mentors.debian.net/package/endless-sky which is now missing:
[995]anarcat@angela:~$ curl -I https://mentors.debian.net/package/endless-sky

Cache-Control: no-cache

i suspect this is because the package expired from mentors. it is now in debian sid, but that is not really available to everyone running debian. the ITP was just closed: http://bugs.debian.org/782846
until it hits debian stretch, it cannot be backported to stable publicly either: http://tracker.debian.org/endless-sky

This line probably ought to change. It doesn't seem publicly accessible any longer. I have heard of a discord, would that be an okay replacement?
I'm a steam noob, so if there is a better way for me to get in touch with MZ please let me know.
I wanted to let you know that a few of us on Steam have taken the liberty of coming up with temporary solutions to a centralized mod-hosting plan, and we have also been looking for more permanent solutions.
On the front of the permanent plan, I am currently in negotiations with a possible web host for an unrelated project, but am more than willing to set up, pay for, and provide centralized, dedicated Endless Sky website though this host, as I can get a good deal on it.
I am not requesting any kind of help for this, nor payment. I am only looking for permission and direction. We would start with 10gb free storage space for mod hosting, and once we reached that cap I would have the option to buy more. The main page and forums would most likely be mobile friendly as well as launcher friendly (I am also working on a few game launcher designs)
I just need to get an OK from MZ, and a list of any features you would like added to the website.
If you have any questions or comments the best way to contact me is via steam, but I will also be keeping an eye on this issue.
The styleguide (C++ style guide, there may be a new one for /data/ ) need to be easily discoverable, I suggest adding a new link to the navigation menu/box. (terminology escapes me)
In order to use new functionality in SDL2 since the currently used version 2.0.3 it would be nice to update it. endless-sky/endless-sky#6315 is the motivation for this at the moment, we might find other goodies in there useful too.
@MCOfficer points out previous updates of these dependencies: https://github.com/endless-sky/endless-sky.github.io/commits/master/win64-dev.zip
I don't know the implications of an upgrade like this would be besides that it's ~6 years of updates to go all the way to 2.0.10 so it would be important to test.
I saw a comment that "we won't be updating the precompiled library versions" from @tehhowch that sounded related but after reading the related Discord conversation I don't think it is.
I moved the proof of concept mod sharing site so the link needs to be updated. It is deprecated and I'm probably going make a real site called "Open Game Mods" for open source mods, guides, etc. I already created a pull request for it.
If you have any use for the proof of concept site then I can transfer ownership to you. I heard you guys were working on an in-game mod manager, so you probably don't need it. π
I'm in the process of backing up some of my ES tools to github, and one of those is a modified ship builder. Not the whole site, just the builder. Since there is no license/copyright info here in the source files or repo, I'm uncomfortable hosting that one publicly. (I'm unable to have private repos.)
So I'm just wondering if one of these days you could find the time to drop a license file in here or stick a copyright in the source files. Thanks.
I tried to compile the code following the instructions on the Build section of the Wiki.
After installing and strugling blindly with the options (complete n00b here) I was able to compile the code getting zero error messages and zero warnings. After adding the dlls from a release version to the directory of the game, when I tried to launch it, I got a weird message. Something about linking.
More detailed instructions or a tutorial would be welcome.
I can compile the code using Linux Mint, but I usually play from Windows. I barely use Mint at the moment.
EDIT: Dunno what I did, but I have downloaded everything again, compiled, added the missing dlls, and the game runs now. Still, I think a more complete information or a tutorial are important.
In the last years, it has become the defacto standard to redirect requests to https. This is worth it even for sites without sensitive data being transmitted, since browsers are becoming increasingly cautious of non-encrypted connections.
Thus, one should consider redirecting traffic for this website as well.
