Here is some javascript that uses a heuristic to pack rectangles in a large rectangle:

Do you think it would be hard to use this code to pack the packages in the hold of the airplane?

The other thing that is cool about the above page is that they color the different sized rectangles. I think this visualization might be easier to understand if you used d3.scale.category10() to color the different sized packages.

Right now you put the title (e.g. Large Box) and weight (e.g. 6 tonnes) in the text above the example. I'd move that title and weight directly into the UI, maybe above the representation of each box on the side. That way your eye can stay in the UI the whole time, and you don't need to read the text above the example to understand it.

Should be simple for me, since it already follows the format for the website.
