The current address request from the "slave" to the "master" can not pass any data with the request to the "master" (quotes here, because the names / roles are exactly the opposite from their I2C roles). It would make reconfiguring the boards and rebuilding a device from previously set up "slaves" easier / possible.

Implement a example that has encoders and leds where an incoming MIDI message, matching the MIDI message sent when turning the encoder, would update the leds connected to the same board as the encoder.

The current single byte value can be a bit restrictive on the resolution. Better to use int or uint16_t.

Currently the implementation uses the same control type for both encoders and pots. This makes the event handling code a bit confusing and also makes it more difficult to implement a scaling function for mapping the values read from the pots.
