This is not the right issue for workspace gestures, you might want to add findings to the gala issue for gestures.

Okay, so the Gestures branch just landed in Gtk 3.14 and the gestures developer has example code for swiping (that doesn't inhibit horizontal scrolling!). Check it out: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=730656

Just in case, 2-finger touchpad swipes are not possible to implement with GtkGestures, on touchpad it's only 3+ fingers. 2-finger swipes have to be scrolling.

HdyPaginator can technically be used here, but you probably want something more stack-like here. Paginator is really for cases like the onboarding dialog, it's kinda like paginated scrolled window.

Like you can't allow back, but not forward swipe.

I'm using Gestures for switch between workspaces, go back in chrome, etc. But it has a huge problem or disadvantage over macOS, it no intermediate status. Sadly works way more better in macOS.

See elementary/switchboard-plug-mouse-touchpad#16, irrelevant for this issue. :)

Workspaces, opening multitasking view etc needs Wayland first.

Back/forward is already implemented in Epiphany upstream (in WebKit really), should be there in elementary 6.0, and right now can be used in Epiphany Technology Preview. Some other browsers, like Ephemeral, also already enable that feature.

The other gesture in WebKit though, pinch zooming, requires Wayland just as system-wide gestures.
