winrmate is a windows-friendly version of rmate, the remote editing utility for TextMate.
This script can be compiled to a 1k self-contained binary using Ocra, and the resulting executable supports drag and drop and works in the Windows "Open With..." menu.
Compiling it is really easy: ocra winr.rbw
Find Ocra here: http://ocra.rubyforge.org/
This script makes use of two environment variables, the same as rmate:
- RMATE_HOST
- RMATE_PORT
These can be set as user variables in the Advanced System Properties -> Environment Variables menu.
The original version of rmate uses fork and detach. On windows, I was unable to get a version of fork that would behave and I couldn't find any version of detach. The solution winrmate uses instead is to call the script using system("start ruby winr -w"), which spawns a new process that will wait in the background until editing in textmate is complete.
