localradio's Introduction

LocalRadio

The latest pre-release alpha versions of the LocalRadio app are available for download at this link.

LocalRadio is "Radio for Cord-Cutters", an experimental, GPL-2 licensed open-source application for listening to "software defined radio" on your Mac and mobile devices. With an inexpensive RTL-SDR device plugged into the Mac's USB port, LocalRadio provides a casual listening experience for your favorite local FM broadcasts, free music, news, sports, weather, public safety and aviation scanner monitoring, and other radio sources.

LocalRadio's easy-to-use web interface allows the radio to be shared from a Mac to iPhones, iPads, Android devices, and other PCs on your home network. No additional software or hardware is required for sharing with mobile devices, simply use the built-in mobile web browser to connect to LocalRadio and tune to your favorite stations. You can also listen to LocalRadio audio on your Apple TV and other AirPlay-compatible devices. Recent versions of LocalRadio have added an option for stereo listening of FM broadcasts and audio devices.

LocalRadio is intended for use as in-home entertainment, using a local area network with a private IP address. It has not been tested with a public IP address, particularly for security testing, therefore it is not recommended for that purpose. For simply listening to LocalRadio on the Mac with the RTL-SDR device plugged in, no network is required at all.

localradio's Issues

Radio frequencies for Europe and Rest of the World

Hi,

I'm located in Europe and the FCC database, of course, does not include the stations over here.
Is there a way to enter the frequency of a radio station manually?
The possibility of a frequency scan would be very appreciated .

Regards, Paul

Feature Request

Many SDR's need the receiver actual frequency to be offset from the desired / broadcast frequency. An option to save an offset (that is applied at every start) would eliminate the need to manually adjust the frequency before entering it into LocalRadio. Please consider adding this feature and making the application more user friendly. Merci for considering this feature request and for the great program.

Latest Mac compatible OS ?

Will 1.22 work with latest Mac OS eg Monterey ?
And does it work with Apple M1 chip ?

Wanting to get RTL-SDR working

Unable to make it run on Sonoma 14.4

Hello thank you for this software. Just a quick note since I spent some time trying to make it compile/works on OS 14 / Xcode 15.3.

Tried to compile the source code and use the 2 binaries provided with no luck .

Even compiling it is not working specially "sox" following the included instruction.
Even adding the apps by hand (sox and the others) since all of them are installed by macport, brings to a ton of warnings and few red errors I'm unable right now to clear.

Both binaries launch but then nothing happens and in the status windows the USB stick, 0x2838 - 0x0bda, it is not correctly identified and started.

Will keep working on porting to the new Mac OS.

thanx

Do you want a logo?

Hello I read your work and I think this is a great project, and I saw that you havent a logotype, so if you need a contribute for graphic design Im here to help.

Greetings

But what about the rest of us

Looks interesting, but it would appear that stations are based on an FCC Database - that doesn't really work for anywhere outside of the continental USA - I am in Australia...

Version 1.6 (7): Icecast works, but "Localradio" main interface does not

Thanks for putting this together.

My "Localradio" screen is blank, but I am able to listen to the station that I'm tuning to via Icecast.

screen shot 2017-10-04 at 12 37 19 am

When I connect to my local system on port 17002, the browser hangs on "New Tab". Connecting to port 17003 on that same host, I get the Icecast screens, and am able to connect to the streaming audio.

I'm running on a MacBook Pro running 10.12.6.
