Private key storage is insecure
The smart contract lives in a public block chain, if you're storing a key in that blockchain I can just download a copy of the chain and peek at the contract's "memory" without ever actually calling any function. Blockchains can not store any private data, the private keys need to live out of chain.
Possibly, an approach like this could work, pending further research:
