if the edges of the cell is in the picture edge detection will not crop it. thats why some pictures are not centered. what needs to be done is get the contours first. remove the contours on the outside until only 1 contour is in the image (assuming all symbols are continuous) then resize. this will bring up the issue if the symbol is not continuous it will give a bad result. but that bridge will be crossed later
