Also CSV format would be a viable alternative (supported by some web libraries as well as by spreadsheet applications).

I think it should be one or the other. sysdig's purpose in life isn't to cater to a panacea of data serialization formats.

We should take a large, well supported one (like JSON) and then throw the ball in the user's court if they want CSV, TSV, YAML, BDB dumps, or what'ever is their fancy.

UNIX philosophy says we stop at one usable format and then crutch on other tools.

There are a very large number of existing software for transforming say JSON to CSV or YAML to XML or whatever.

the desire for other formats derives from the overhead of parsing json at scale, its quite heavy in comparison to bulk data formats ie. csv|tsv are best, yaml is worse).
