@John-Hart , @sujitnayak, are there plans to disable SHA1 selection in VS publish UI? We will remove "-algorithm" option from Mage tool. We default to, and always use, SHA256.

It is still in VS, I believe for backwards compatibility with .NET 2.0 projects, but it is not the default option.

I should add, I need to verify my memory on that decision, but what we can do though is remove it as option for all other projects.
