PSK31

Introduction for Beginners

If you are new to PSK31, M0JCQ's Ham Blog is a good place to start reading.

But there is more information out there...

Keep in mind

  • Use lower case characters to increase your speed
  • Repeat the vitals (call sign, RST) three times, but not during a contest
  • Transmit symbols before your callsign to prevent wrong reading, especially in bad conditions
     ***<their-call> <their-call> de <your-callsign> <your-callsign>'

Common macros

You can have macro setups that cover almost every eventuality, the most common include the following:

  1. Calling CQ
    `CQ CQ CQ <your-callsign> <your-callsign> <your-callsign> k
    `CQ CQ CQ <your-callsign> <your-callsign> <your-callsign> CQ k

  2. Answer a CQ call
    <their-callsign> de <my-callsign> <my-callsign> <my-callsign> kn

  3. Start a QSO
    <their-callsign> de <my-callsign> <my-callsign> <my-callsign>

  4. About Me/QTH
    Name: <MYNAME> <MYNAME>
    QTH: <MYQTH> <MYQTH>
    LOC: <MYLOC> <MYLOC>
    QSL via bureau or eQSL

  5. Station details (brag)
    Rig: <my:radio>
    Ant: <my:antenna>
    Pwr: <my:power>
    Web: <my:homepage>

  6. End the over (kn)
    btu <NAME> <CALL> de <MYCALL> kn

  7. End QSO (sk)
tnx fer QSO <NAME>, 73s to you and your family
    <CALL> de <MYCALL> sk
