We want to be able to call system utilities (pip, git, cookiecutter), show their output realtime ("show more" button) - let user reply to prompts by script (even unexpected)

Currently it looks like combination of subprocess.Popen and pexpect package. Is there a better tool, or a package that bundles it all together nicely?

which version of python do you want this written in?

There are three options

• custom templating
• Cookiecutter

Cookiecutter looks absolutely sweet and already offers many options. -> Clear choice

Should we have our templates, or ship with templates of others?

Should we have a repository with python templates somewhere on a server so people can easily say which one they want without having to search for them?

Dispenser should be multplatform, thanks to Toga this will not be an issue when it comes to GUI, but we need a way to create installers, packages for various package managers etc. with all requirements and make sure they are set up correctly (pip in PATH on windows etc.)

Should Dispenser manage .gitignore, or just use it for tags?

Gitignore could be rendered from a template and include many many things (PyCharm has pretty template for that) - that way it doesn't have to be touched by most. However it's a bit unclean and includes many unnecessary things.
