onshape-desktop-shell's Introduction

Onshape Desktop Application

Download Onshape standalone app (release notes).

Onshape is the first and only full-cloud 3D CAD system that lets everyone on a design team simultaneously work together using a web browser, phone or tablet. CAD Anywhere, Anytime, On Any Device.”

So, there is no official desktop application since you can use Onshape on a desktop computer using web browser.

But using web browser in this case is not always convenient — you lost all standard ways to open app or to switch to it. What if you want to easily switch to Onshape using cmd+tab? And not to lose Onshape among other web pages?

Please note – it is unofficial application.

You don't need to worry about updates, once installed, application will be updated automatically (in the same way as Google Chrome).

Installation

OS X

Nothing special. Just download, double click to mount it and drag the application icon to the /Applications folder.

After the app is dragged to your Applications folder, you can run it normally — from the Finder, Launchpad, Spotlight, dock, or anything else. The first time you open a downloaded application, you’ll see a warning. Agree to open the file and you won’t see the warning again. See short or long (“DMG Files" section”) guide.

Windows

Download, open the folder that contains the downloaded file, double click to open it, application will be automatically installed and launched. Desktop shortcut will be also created.

How to report issues

Categories= key missing in onshape.desktop; not showing in menu properly

Currently, the onshape.desktop file looks like this:

[Desktop Entry]
Name=Onshape
Comment=Onshape desktop app (web application shell)
Exec=AppRun
Terminal=false
Type=Application
Icon=onshape
X-AppImage-Version=0.5.12.355
X-AppImage-BuildId=33733a40-5771-11a7-0985-b16423d82cf2

The result is that Onshape will appear under "Lost and found" in the start menu (e.g., in KDE Plasma). There should be at least one main category from https://standards.freedesktop.org/menu-spec/latest/apa.html#main-category-registry set, e.g., Categories=Graphics;. Then Onshape would appear correctly in the menu.

This is especially important for the optional appimaged daemon which integrates every downloaded AppImage into the menu automatically.

Possibly this is also a feature request for electron-builder, to always enforce having at least one main category set. This may become a requirement in the automated review for inclusion in AppImageHub, the upcoming central database of AppImages.

Cannot `npm start`

I was using this as an example for an electron app I've been working on.

I downloaded the app and ran npm start

and got

The app provided is not a valid Electron app, please read the docs on how to write one:
https://github.com/electron/electron/tree/v0.37.7/docs

Error: Cannot find module '../build/Release/nslog.node'

How can I resolve this?

An in-range update of rimraf is breaking the build 🚨

The devDependency rimraf was updated from 2.6.2 to 2.6.3.

🚨 View failing branch.

This version is covered by your current version range and after updating it in your project the build failed.

rimraf is a devDependency of this project. It might not break your production code or affect downstream projects, but probably breaks your build or test tools, which may prevent deploying or publishing.

Can't seem to print drawings

Hi there.

Firstly, awesome work - makes using onshape so much nicer.

One thing I came across yesterday is that I can't seem to print drawings within the app. Instead of opening a 'print preview' like the onshape site it instead tries to download immediately - I have tried renaming this file to no avail.

Icon error

Hey, I am trying to learn a little about distributing an app for Windows, and when I run your example, i'm getting the following error:

Packaging app for platform win32 x64 using electron v0.37.2
Error: fixme:heap:HeapSetInformation 0x0 1 0x0 0
Fatal error: Unable to set icon

I wonder if you knew what was happening here?

Linux Support?

I see that you have both Windows and Mac supported, I personally would love to see Linux supported. I'm currently using Ubuntu, so the debian branches would be great. I could see this really taking off by attaching onshapes comments etc to the desktops notification services etc. :)

can't use touch input to manipulate model

I downloaded this hoping it would let me interact with my model in a a touch capacity (I'm on a windows surfacebook pro). Didn't work.

It also doesn't work using the OEM onshape website in a browser. Any insights the challenges associated with allowing for touch on this app?

OnShape 0.4.5 Windows version won't update. (but Mac yes)

Hi to everybody, I downloaded mac version from here: https://github.com/develar/onshape-desktop-shell/releases/download/v0.4.5/Onshape-0.4.5.dmg after few minutes, I closed and open the app again and I can see the new version running 0.5.0

I did the same in windows, I just downloaded the binary here: https://github.com/develar/onshape-desktop-shell/releases/download/v0.4.5/Onshape-Setup-0.4.5.exe but I always get the 0.4.5 version.
Here is the SquirrelSetup.log.

Thank you,

Hi,

How did you sandbox your app by providing the entitlements file? I was not able to find any documentation for the same in electron-builder.

Any help would highly be appreciated.

Can show more options in example on windows platform ?

I guess we can get a better installer like normal windows software's installer instead of without any custom process like chosing install path though the options such as 'installHeader' 'installHeaderIcon' and so on .
