civ5-artificial-unintelligence-dll's Issues

General questions about the possibilities

Hello. First, I want to say that I'm very appriciate your work. Such enthusiasm is great and rare, and differ from studios approach, that oriented on populace rather than hardcore players and true fans.

I want to ask about strength of your mod. For example, once about 15 aztec units tried to conquer my weakly protected town with one archer. Of course, they failed. Or another time I had been raising the culture for a long time and bots couldn't guess to create alliance and destroy the common threat. Experienced players can give hundreds of similar situations.

I understand that such planning is very difficult problem for comp, because I'm programmer too and interested in AI methods. I don't know how it realized in Civ code, probably just "many if-else" algorithms. But this is main problem with Civ AI - weak strategy. Tactic may be satisfactory - it is more easily to code (pathfinding, decision trees, optimization, etc). But there aren't algorithms for global strategy, only heuristics. Player expands for some value of territory? May be need attack him. Player create some value of army? May be need protect border. Unfortunatly, there is no "may be" for all cases.

I (and probably other users of your mod too) curious to know what you think about this? AI (even with your mod) is doomed to failure in strategic planning and everything that can be counted - a local improvements in tactics?

PS: game with human would be the best solution, but turn-based strategies are the worst genre for multiplayer (question of time, of course). It is inconvenient for many. As a result, have to give up such a good game.

Please provide some basic info on how to participate/work with the code/get started.

Hi,

I hate the Stupidity of the Civ5 AI so much that I could imaging spending time working on this mod.

Can you provide some pointers on how to get started?

Specifically I would be interested in:

  • How do I build/install the dll?
** I saw a civfanatics.com post, and could probably find it again.
    ** Is there anything better?
** Do I need to know anything in particular?
  • Is there any way to simulate/tests this without building the dll and running the game?
** How do you verify that your changes are working as expected?
  • What is the state of the experimental branch?
  • Are you working on this allone?
