Automatic colorization of the Prokudin Gorsky photographic plate images. Sergey Prokudin-Gorsky took various photographs documenting the Russian Empire during the early 1900s. He took these on photographic plates which relied on the idea of Three-Color Photography.
Fig.1 shows one of the photographic plate images as captured by Gorsky while Fig. 2 shows the obtained results. There are essentially three parts involved in the process of their colorization:
- Preprocessing
- Image pyramid construction
- Alignment and colorization
