We've noticed that regfont seems to operate much slower in Windows 10 than it did in Windows 7. Not sure why exactly, but the difference is huge when registering 1000+ fonts.

We have a script that registers a folder of fonts on our network, we're just not sure why it's slower on our Windows 10 machines than our Windows 7 ones

Any ideas what we might be able to do to improve performance?

I use vim and since some versions, it allows to use directx rendering
instead of the normal GDI rendering engine. Now all fonts that I have
installed using regfont, won't be rendered at all, if I turn on directx
rendering for Vim. I have used MS Visual Studios debugger, to trace the
problem, but I can only see, that whenever a CreateFontIndirect() call
is made, a handle is returned, that looks like this
0xc011751 {unused=???}

Since CreateFontIndirect() is a Windows function call, I am not sure,
what this means and how I can prevent this. Do you have an idea, what
might be causing this or how this could be fixed?

According to Avast, DeepScreen is an advanced technology for running “unknown” applications inside the safe environment. It helps to determine whether the file is malicious or not. It has been introduced in Avast 2014 and it continues to exists in Avast 2015 and 2016.

It scans files when they first run in a sandbox. Unfortunately, it causes regfont to hang.

You can work around this by adding regfont.exe to the exclusions list in Avast.
