Hmm, I see your point. I built it originally under the impression that there's more than enough time to read a card while it's being paid for. I did consider having it function the way you say, but I wanted to avoid having an extra action each time. But perhaps having an extra step might be make it easier to know when to play interrupts.

Definetly :). The human mind takes a little while (a second or three) to go from "something is happening" to "what do I do?" and "investigate". Paying for a card goes very quickly (which is good) but usually leaves the opponent at the "something is happening" stage :). Especially true for newer players.
