shallowequal's Introduction

shallowequal Build Status Downloads npm version

shallowequal is like lodash's isEqual (v3.10.1) but for shallow (strict) equal.

shallowequal(value, other, [customizer], [thisArg])

Performs a shallow equality comparison between two values (i.e. value and other) to determine if they are equivalent.

The equality check returns true if value and other are already strictly equal, OR when all the following are true:

  • value and other are both objects with the same keys
  • For each key, the value in value and other are strictly equal (===)

If customizer (expected to be a function) is provided it is invoked to compare values. If customizer returns undefined (i.e. void 0), then comparisons are handled by the shallowequal function instead.

The customizer is bound to thisArg and invoked with three arguments: (value, other, key).

NOTE: Docs are (shamelessly) adapted from lodash's v3.x docs

Install

$ yarn add shallowequal
# npm v5+
$ npm install shallowequal
# before npm v5
$ npm install --save shallowequal

Usage

const shallowequal = require("shallowequal");

const object = { user: "fred" };
const other = { user: "fred" };

object == other;
// → false

shallowequal(object, other);
// → true

Credit

Code for shallowEqual originated from https://github.com/gaearon/react-pure-render/ and has since been refactored to have the exact same API as lodash.isEqualWith (as of v4.17.4).

should the following test return ture?

var equal = require("shallowequal")

var a = { name: 'fraserxu', belongs: ['bike', 'mac'] }
var b = { belongs: ['bike', 'mac'], name: 'fraserxu' }
var c = { belongs: ['bike', 'mac'], name: 'fraserxu' }

console.log(equal(a, b)) // false
console.log(equal(b, c)) // false

but if I use substack's node-deep-equal

var equal = require("deep-equal")

var a = { name: 'fraserxu', belongs: ['bike', 'mac'] }
var b = { belongs: ['bike', 'mac'], name: 'fraserxu' }
var c = { belongs: ['bike', 'mac'], name: 'fraserxu' }

console.log(equal(a, b)) // true
console.log(equal(b, c)) // true

Is this the desired behaviour of shallowEqual? Sorry this is not an issue but I'm curious about the difference between deep and shallow here.

Unable to use without babel-preset-es2015

Getting the following error

Error: Couldn't find preset "es2015" relative to directory "/Users/<username>/Projects/<project-name>/node_modules/shallowequal"

I'm using babel-preset-env and not es2015

Would Object.keys suffice instead of lodash.keys?

I am currently working with Meteor and we use PureRenderMixin to render or not when properties change. Facebook released an update to use shallowCompare mixin which makes use of shallowequal and this has a dependency to lodash.keys. Meteor however applies Underscore and I would love to utilize it more often if possible. But to be more dependency free, would shallowequal work with Object.keys? It seems to apply the same logic and return an array of keys.

Update: Object.keys is not working on IE-version lower than 9. But there are polyfills.

Action required: Greenkeeper could not be activated 🚨

🚨 You need to enable Continuous Integration on all branches of this repository. 🚨

To enable Greenkeeper, you need to make sure that a commit status is reported on all branches. This is required by Greenkeeper because we are using your CI build statuses to figure out when to notify you about breaking changes.

Since we did not receive a CI status on the greenkeeper/initial branch, we assume that you still need to configure it.

If you have already set up a CI for this repository, you might need to check your configuration. Make sure it will run on all new branches. If you don’t want it to run on every branch, you can whitelist branches starting with greenkeeper/.

We recommend using Travis CI, but Greenkeeper will work with every other CI service as well.
