This may actually be a bug in git difftool:

$ git difftool -d
fatal: Could not switch to '../../../../dependencies/': No such file or directory
diff --raw --no-abbrev -z: command returned error: 128

i.e. the crash happens before webdiff ever gets a chance to run.

Thanks! Here's a thread on the git mailing list discussing the issue. There's a patch on that thread, so it's possible that updating to the latest git will fix the problem for you.

Just confirmed: updating git solves this issue.

Before:

$ git --version
git version 1.8.5.2 (Apple Git-48)

After:

$ git --version
git version 2.0.3
