beaver-notes's Issues

A little problem about font load

I always get "403" error when fonts are loading, which causes the app startup slowly.

ๅ›พ็‰‡

I temporary removed this code from tailwind.css and rebuild the app. And now my app is back to normal.

@import url('https://fonts.googleapis.com/css2?family=Arimo:ital,wght@0,400;0,500;1,400&family=EB+Garamond:ital,wght@0,400;0,500;1,400&family=Ubuntu:ital,wght@0,400;0,500;1,400&display=swap');@import url('https://fonts.cdnfonts.com/css/open-dyslexic');
@import url('https://fonts.cdnfonts.com/css/helvetica-neue-55');
@import url('https://fonts.cdnfonts.com/css/avenir');

I'm not very sure it really need to loading font configuration from remote.

Make the inline code more visible plus more efficient

Here's how the inline code looks like with the dark theme on:

2023-09-24_22-16
Not very visible at all. It should be a lot more obvious.

On top of that I think is a great idea to contain the code somehow so when I double click it I can select it all without selecting anything else, to be able to use that code (copy it).

Obscure Password Field

Hello Daniele,

could you please build into the app that passwords are no longer displayed in plain text in the input fields? I think that would be a real benefit in terms of security.

I once searched the Internet for an example of how something like this could be implemented. But I'm not that experienced in Javascript, so I'll just link you to the article.

Best regards

Toolbar scrolls when there's enough space

Bug Description
The toolbar scrolls when the window is wide enough to fit all the tools.

image

Desktop (please complete the following information):

  • OS: Windows 10
  • Application Version: 2.9.0 (yay!)

Some questions about style

  1. In dark mode, code block comments are not distinguishable from the background.
  2. The line height of list seems to be a little high. I compare with tiptap's live demo, and their lists seem to be not as high.

ๅ›พ็‰‡
ๅ›พ็‰‡

Missing vim mode/keybindings

There is no problem, but Beaver-Notes lacks the obligatory Vim keybings/mode :).

Solution: Implement a toggleable Vim mode to improve the overall feeling when writing notes.

Auto Sync

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
I am sure many users will forget to click the export/import buttons for the sync after editing the notes.

Describe the solution you'd like
Periodically syncing or upon page transition will be nice.

Describe alternatives you've considered
If auto sync is not easy to implement, maybe a reminder dialog box when opening the app or existing the app to do the import/export.

This is really an amazing product and I really appreciate the hard works.

Linux App don't start after upgrade to version 2.3.0

Bug Description
Hi Daniele,
the Linux app no longer starts after the update to version 2.3. The following error message is displayed on startup.

APPIMAGE env is not defined, current application is not an AppImage
checkForUpdatesAndNotify called, downloadPromise is null
APPIMAGE env is not defined, current application is not an AppImage
checkForUpdatesAndNotify called, downloadPromise is null

The app window only shows a white background.

From the Git repository the app can be started (with yarn) in the current version, so I suspect that something went wrong when creating the rpm package. I also tried to uninstall the app once and reinstall it with the rpm package, but the app still doesn't start properly.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Start the App on Terminal or from menu
  2. The error message appear and the show a white blank screen.

Danny

Code blocks don't work well

Using the code block button on the toolbar renders the code properly, but it's not convenient to use.

  1. when I paste the code from somewhere else into the code block, the formatting gets messed up
  2. I can't use the TAB key to indent when entering code in code block

Why is a note app nearly 500MB??

Check your builds, pretty sure you don't need these in every one:
Screenshot 2023-11-26 at 8 59 12โ€ฏAM

Also, Electron is a gaping security hole and a pig on resources. Consider moving to Swift, just saying.

Leave some space at the end of editor

There is no remaining space at the bottom of the editor. Therefore, when the notes reach the bottom people must put their sight at the bottom of the screen. This makes people feel uncomfortable. Because when people browse the web, their sights are often in the middle of the screen. They have to bow their heads when the sight is too low.

ๅ›พ็‰‡

Language support for v. 2.7.0

This update is aimed at enhancing language support for the upcoming release of version 2.7.0. Exciting news! We've included new fields in the en.json file under both the menu and settings sections:

Menu Section:

    "tableOptions": "Table options",
    "tableInsert": "Insert table",
    "addRowAbove": "Add row above",
    "addRowBelow": "Add row below",
    "addColumnLeft": "Add column left",
    "addColumnRight": "Add column right",
    "deleteRow": "Delete row",
    "deleteColumn": "Delete column",
    "toggleHeader": "Toggle header cell",
    "deleteTable": "Delete table"

Settings Section:

    "aboutDataEncryption": "About data encryption",
    "encryptionMessage": "Beaver notes employes AES-128 through crypto-es",
    "advancedSettings": "Advanced Settings"

For this reason, I'm reaching out to the original translation maintainer (@eag75, @bigshans, @mee141) or anyone keen on contributing to update the translations. Your input is greatly appreciated! Let's work together to make sure our language support is top-notch for the release.

Request to close spellchecker

Now spellchecker is a little annoying to run anywhere such as codeblock. I think if we can't control it's behavior, maybe closing it is a better choice.

ๅ›พ็‰‡

Upgraded "select font" options

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
I chose Avenir as my new favorite font for beaver app but the problem is, that font doesn't match the header font, I think when I choose a font in the settings it doesn't apply to everything so naturally it's going to mis-match things.

Describe the solution you'd like
Similar to how you can choose apps in mobile apps, like Bear or other apps, I think if you gave me more options, I'd be more excited to launch up beaver notes and take more notes!

image

Describe alternatives you've considered
N/A

Additional context
Instead of limiting font selection to just the "Editor font," it would be great if I could also choose a "Header font." Additionally, incorporating operating system detection and allowing the use of fonts already installed on my PC would be convenient. For instance, I've downloaded fonts from Google Fonts on one occasion, and another time, I came across a font I adore on a different website. It would be helpful if I could simply input the desired font, similar to editing CSS with the font-family: property.

Make autoupdate optional

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
Autoupdate slow down app startup. Sometimes it fails to start due to auto update.

Describe the solution you'd like
Provide an option I can turn off auto update.

Describe alternatives you've considered
No.

Additional context
No.

Add a control to adjust the global font size in notes

Have recently discovered Beaver Notes and I'm pretty impressed with it has an application. This is not a bug but more of a feature enhancement. I believe it would be useful if there was a global control/setting to adjust the font size of notes.

i.e. if the global font size is increased it increases the size of regular text, headings, and code samples. similar if decreased.

Mac app doesn't start

Downloaded the application from the website for my MacOS operating system.
Can't start it. Crashes instantly.
My os: Mac OSX 14.0 (Intel)

How is Markdown working?

I am looking for a simple app to move my markdown notes to but if I copy the markdown text from my notes Beaver does not understand any of them:

2023-09-24_22-20

I am a bit confused :D

Syncing note written yesterday on another device

Question or Assistance Request

Description

A note written yesterday on another device didn't import. Is this supported?
I notice export produces a new, dated directory each day. That seems to have something to do with it.

Environment (if applicable)

  • Operating System: Windows
  • Version of the project : v2.8.0

Cursor in URL Input field

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.

When hyperlinking text, it's overwritten if user forgets to click in the input field before pressing Ctrl+V. Also, a mouse move/click can be removed from the workflow.

Describe the solution you'd like

When this pop-up appears, I'd suggest placing keyboard focus into the Input field. Then user can hyperlink more easily.

image

I'd suggest this workflow:

  1. Select text
  2. Click ๐Ÿ”— (or Ctrl+K)
  3. Ctrl+V pastes URL
  4. Enter closes with changes, Esc closes discarding changes.

New Note > Add title > Clicking enter and or numpad enter does not "focus note"

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
When I create a note, I'm unable to hit enter to focus on note section when I type a Note title. Instead, I have to hit tab.

Describe the solution you'd like
When I press numpad enter or enter button it acts as if I'm hitting enter...

Describe alternatives you've considered
N/A

Additional context
I believe it would be interesting to have the ability, as seen in some other note-taking applications, to include a feature for "title focus upon creating a new note." If you check out the older version of the Evernote app, it's nearly flawless, and there are some fantastic concepts to draw inspiration from. For instance, the use of double hyphens transforming into a horizontal rule is also a noteworthy and beneficial feature.

Translation for "headingtree" is a little weird

"Headingtree" sounds strange and I've never heard it before. When I checked the Italian translation, it is "Ricerca intestazioni" which Google translated to mean "header search.". I think there might be something wrong here, and I believe "heading search" would be a better choice.

Flathub release

Flathub is one of the easiest ways for a Linux systems to get apps - working across basically every major distro (with easy updates)

It would be nice to see Beaver Notes on flathub :)

Package Manager(s)

Not a deal breaker, but just curious if you have plans of making it available on any package managers (e.g. Homebrew)? BTW, looking good so far!

Font size does not change

In Linux (AUR or Appimage) changing the font size in the settings will not change the font size anywhere.

`Ctrl + Shift + I` conflicts with devtools

Bug Description
Press Ctrl+Shift+I will trigger toggle import and popup devtools at same time.

To Reproduce
Press Ctrl+Shift+I.

Expected Behavior
Toggle import.

The current development branch contain some changes I extra made you need to know

Now it seems that my branch called "flavor" is merged which contains not only the upgrades for tiptap. I also made some changes you need to know such as:

  1. Quickly delete the current note on the editor page (Add some translations).
  2. Make the line height for the editor page more compact.
  3. Increase the font size on the editor page.
  4. Fix the label selector when the label is deleted.
  5. Auto-scroll the page when the cursor reaches the last line (improve issue #92 ).

And the PR #95 is only about the upgrades for tiptap.

Using Milkdown as Markdown Parser

Question or Assistance Request

  • I have reviewed existing issues and discussions to find a solution to my question.
  • I have checked the documentation and relevant resources for answers.
  • This question is related to the project and within the scope of this repository.

Description
Have you considered using Milkdown as the parser instead of Tiptap. I think it would be more suitable for this app.

Markdown Syntax and Custom CSS Support

It seems that some common Markdown syntax, such as tables, hyperlinks, task lists, etc., does not work well in this App. Also, it should be possible to allow custom CSS or themes so that users can develop personalized styles.

Notes encryption can be bypassed during the running

Summary

Notes encryption can be bypassed during the running.

Details

Although exported and imported data is encrypted, encrypted notes while the application is running are unencrypted. So hackers can easily get the encrypted notes.

For example, the code from HomeNoteCard.vue:

          const hashHex = hashArray
            .map((byte) => byte.toString(16).padStart(2, '0'))
            .join('');
          if (hashHex === sharedKey) {
              // ...
          }

No password is needed after I changed it:

          let hashHex = hashArray
            .map((byte) => byte.toString(16).padStart(2, '0'))
            .join('');
          hashHex = sharedKey;
          if (hashHex === sharedKey) {
            // ...
          }

Of course, we can also get data from devtools. That's easier.

This is a very serious bug that needs to be fixed. Password protection is effectively useless during running. In my opinion, only the encrypted text needs to be saved. If the key is wrong, an error will be thrown during decryption. You needn't store sharedKey.

Choice of colors for tags

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
Similarly to your blog, it'd be easier to distinguish notes by having the ability to change the individual tag color.

Describe the solution you'd like
Tag color picker, ideally with a field for color codes.

Describe alternatives you've considered

Additional context

Paste from clipboard support (not just drag and drop)

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
I'd like to be able to copy a gif, or image from a screensnip app that is loaded into my clipboard onto a Beaver note.

Describe alternatives you've considered
Just check back in a week or month or whatever and see if it's integrated. I noticed there is drag and drop support which is very nice...

Additional context
So far so great with the beaver app on Windows, I really like it and I could see all the extra work and dev going into this that should create some great momentum. Some people like Momentum and others try it out and just stick with Craft, Dropbox Paper or something else instead because those are full-fledges but also have the basics.
