TGA only supports color depth 32bit, this should be checked and ensured.

is this because my input image is bad (it's a png) ?

on the other hand, when i use Dropps to convert that exact png it works!

When PNG files are opened, the RGB channels are swapped.

Converting a BMP32 with 32bit per pixel and an alpha channel doesn't recognise the alpha channel and results in a dds with white alpha.

Not only conversion TO DDS, but also DDS to other formats.
