screenmazer's Introduction

ScreenMazer

ScreenMazer is a screensaver for Mac that builds a maze, and then solves it, repetitively. I had this idea a while back watching some gifs of maze generation, and so I made it!

Settings Page

Installation:

  1. Download the latest zip file, and extract ScreenMazer.saver from the .zip file. Then double click to add it to Settings. Feel free to customize it!

Alternatively, you can build it from the source here.

If you're running into Security alerts, they're just from compiling on an older version of XCode. You can override them by going to Settings -> Privacy & Security and clicking "Open Anway".

screenmazer's Issues

Preview is broken on macOS Mojave (10.14.3)

screenshot 2019-02-23 14 41 50

As you can see in the screenshot, the preview is broken on macOS Mojave (10.14.3). The screensaver works when I click preview but I can't quit or close it without hitting the power button.

Screensaver Settings page goes blank

My screensaver settings goes blank after I choose the full black color for the background. This happens after I close and reopen the screensaver settings. But that happens only when I pick ScreenMazer, because it somehow defaulted to something else.

Very low FPS with high resolution screen

I have an external 5k x 2k monitor on my MacBook pro 15 2018 (MacOS 10.14.6) and the screensaver barely hits 2 fps, whereas it is really smooth when the external screen is not plugged in.

Dual Monitors Frames not Updating on Second Monitor

screenmazer runs fine on my main monitor, but on the second it only updates when the first switches to either solving or creating the maze. This causes the second screen to hang while the first maze is updating.

Could be something to do with multiple instances of the screensaver using the same memory? Not sure what would cause this but going to look into it.

Update for Mojave

Love this screensaver, but can't get it load on Mojave. Any chance of an update? Thanks much!
