dissertation-'s Introduction

For my dissertation I aim to develop a prototype of an eAssesment system with focus on marking automation in order to research how technology can improve the efficiency of the exam marking process. I was able to identify some of the possible requirements for such a system, however I won't be able to develop all of them in the time window.. I need to identify how useful they are in relation to each other to help me prioritise which features should appear in the prototype.

dissertation-'s Issues

[DST-4] Automatically Marked diagrams questions

Exam designer creates entities with labels and symbols. Each entity can have any number of directed or undirected relations (lines or arrows) to other entities. Later each entity and connection can be assigned a mark. Students will need to create entities with names that match the ones created by the exam designer, as well as match the relations to gain marks. This will allow for automatic marking of diagrams to certain extent.

[DST-2] Highlighting key terms and expressions in Essay questions

[DST-2] Highlighting key terms and expressions in Essay questions

Exam designer provides any number of words they wish to get highlighted when marking, so they're easier to spot. The system will go off and look up synonyms of the words provided and allow the exam designer to approve any number of synonyms to be added to the data set. This aims to help to reduce the issue caused by students not getting matches if they use unusual words.

[DST-1] Automatically Marked Single Expression Question

[DST-1]

Exam designer provides a short answer that is required to receive a maximum mark, as well as answers to receive partial marks. The answers will be marked automatically using Regular Expressions generated by the system based on the exam designer's input. Advanced option allows to show the generated regular expression and edit them.

[DST-5] Computer Aided Drawing Questions

[DST-5] Computer Aided Drawing Questions

Students are provided with a simple Graphics Editor which allows to draw simple shapes (Circles, Arrows, Rectangles etc.), draw freely and type text on the pictures. The marker will then be provided with the image produced by the student and decide on the mark.

[DST-6] Automatically Marked Numeric Question

[DST-6] Automatically Marked Numeric Question

Exam designer provides a number for the answer, as well as expressions they want to see in students working out. Marks can be assigned for the correct answer, expressions in the working out as well as partial marks if the students are a certain amount off the correct answer.
