Open in Notion - Chrome Extension

This Chrome extension intercepts Notion pages links and redirects them to the Notion desktop app.

Preview

Install

Download and install Notion desktop app.
Install extension from Chrome Web Store.

How to Manually Install

Launch Chrome
Go to Extensions (chrome://extensions/)
Toggle Developer mode
Click Load unpacked extension
Select src folder from this repository

Usage

Paste a Notion link into a Chrome address bar.
Press Enter.
If you see a confirmation dialog in Chrome, select "Always open these links associated with this app" option and then click "Open Notion" button.
Notice: Restore the "Always open these types of links in the associated app"
If you need to open a pages link in Chrome tab instead of Notion desktop app, you can switch the extension off by clicking on the extension icon.

Custom option

Right-clicking on the extension icon shows you preferences popup.

Navigating to Notion "/templates" URL will result in a loop

Bug

When navigating to https://www.notion.so/templates, the extension will open the notion app. The app then will open the web page again, resulting in an infinite loop.

Solution

We need to add the templates keyword in the reserved list.

Enable/disable on specific notion sites

I’d like to use this extension ONLY for my own workspaces (e.g. notion pages I can edit). For other, public notion pages, I’d like to have them open in the browser like any other webpage.

Therefore, I propose adding whitelist/blacklist options to either:

or this section if possible

Either way, having the ability to tell the extension “only open these sites in notion, the rest use the browser” would be super useful!

Doesn't work on notion.so/guides/*

When the extension is enabled, visiting https://www.notion.so/guides/timeline-view-unlocks-high-output-planning-for-your-team causes the tab to open itself repeatedly unless all tabs of the same URL is closed.

Force new notion window on desktop when opening

I'd prefer a setting to enable Notion desktop to always open each link in a new window. I frequently have 3-4-5 Notion windows open tracking various things throughout the day (projects, articles, tasks, team members, etc.) and when I click a link and it opens in the desktop I lose whatever I was working on in the foreground Notion window.
