Right now the MQTT doesn't like to send/receive more than 103 bytes. Longer messages get ignores.

when leaving these three lines in the code the ESP crashes upon sending MQTT messages on either "Text" or "Binary" topics, suggesting the conditional subscription == &binaryTopic returns as true during every call of the MQTT function.

Without the MQTT Server the Display doesn’t update anymore and the time is locked.
We should have a check in the loop to verify if the server is up.

When I tired the code yesterday I got the same results as before with weird characters being displayed in place of äö etc.

I noticed that the display prints out the last binary image (randomly ?) now and then. Can the MQTT server push old data?

Unfortunately, the MQTT client looses the connection to the broker regularly.

In the broker log, you can see that the client tries to reconnect, but the broker throws an socket error.
We have two options:

1. change the mqtt library used on the client side (@Narquadah mentioned pubsubclient works for him).
   Here we need to ensure the paket sizes can be adjusted. According to knolleary/pubsubclient#110 this should work.
2. Try to debug why there is a socket error.
