All of the apps listed here are open-source. Most of them are available on F-Droid. There are some exceptions, like X and Y for which you can only download the APK from the original website. I have learnt about many of these apps from the The ultimate F-Droid setup blogpost which offers a wide collection of the best FLOSS apps out there. The page is really well put together and each app is in its own category.

⚠️ Many links are missing. I will add them when I have some time.

  • Aegis Authenticator: 2FA app with password/biometric unlock.
  • Aurora Store: Alternative frontend to Google Play with minimal features, does not require a Google account, anonymous.
  • Bitwarden: Cloud-based password manager. Self-hosting is supported.
  • Breezy Weather: A fork of Geometric Weather.
  • Catima - Loyalty Card Wallet: Small app to store loyalty cards and various coupons and tickets.
  • Collabora Office: An Open source Office suite.
  • Converter NOW: Simple unit converter app with a nice UI.
  • Data Monitor: Track your daily data usage.
  • Feeder: Simple RSS reader for Android.
  • Feeel - home workouts: A simple home workout/exercise app that respects your privacy.
  • Fossify Gallery: Simple gallery app. Fork of Simple Gallery.
  • Fossify Phone: Simple phone app (includes Caller ID spam block). Fork of Simple Gallery.
  • JellyFin: Mobile client for Jellyfin, a local media server.
  • Joplin: Great note taking app (markdown-based). Can be setup to cloud-sync. Works very well with Syncthing.
  • KeePassDX: Local file-based password manager. Works very well with Syncthing for synchronization.
  • LibreSpeed: Check your internet speed. Alternative to SpeedTest.
  • Maps & GPS Navigation OsmAnd+ : Alternative à Google Maps: Very complete offline maps application using OpenStreetMap. Can be a little overwhelming in terms of UI.
  • Material Files: Open source material design file manager with support for remote storage options (namely SMB).
  • Mull: Privacy oriented web browser. (A fork of Fennec, which is a fork of Firefox since Firefox Android version includes proprietary blobs).
  • Nekome: Tracker for your anime and manga. It uses Kitsu for the database.
  • Neo Store: A modern feature-rich F-Droid client. For each app, it gives a score based on the number of permissions it requires as well as the number of trackers that are needed to make it work.
  • Open Camera: Prendre des photos sans traqueurs. (ça veut pas dire sans EXIF, mais c’est configurable au niveau de l’app)
  • OpenFoodFacts: An open source alternative to apps like Yuka.
  • OpenTracks: A sport tracker app that respects your privacy.
  • openScale: Weight and body metrics tracker, with support for Bluetooth scales
  • OpenVPN for Android: An OpenVPN client.
  • Organic Maps Offline Hiking: Similar to OsmAnd+ but with less features and a more simplistic UI.
  • Pedometer (PFA): Counts your steps in the background. Very cutomizable.
  • Proton Calendar: Calendar app from Proton. Installed via APK.
  • Proton Drive: Drive app from Proton. Alternativ to Google Drive.
  • Proton Mail: Email app from Proton. Requires Google Play services for notifications (which I have not enabled but it still works well).
  • Proton VPN: VPN app from Proton. Downloadable from F-Droid.
  • RHVoice: TTS engine with extended languages support.
  • Scrambled Exif: Very handy to quickly remove the metadata from pictures.
  • Showly OSS: Frontend client to Trakt.tv which I use to track TV shows and movies.
  • Signal: Secure chat app with E2EE. Requires a phone number to be used but it can be made private in settings.
  • SimpleLogin | Anti-spam: Service to create throwaway email aliases. Has very great integration with Proton Mail since they were bought by them a few years ago.
  • Spotube: Lightweight spotify client.
  • StreetComplete: OpenStreetMap surveyor app. It feels like playing a video game.
  • SyncThing: Awesome service to synchronize files between devices. It's all local but can be configured to work remotely. I could not live without it.
  • Termux: Terminal emulator app for Android.
  • TimeR Machine: Highly customizable interval timer.
  • Transportr: Free Public Transport Assistant without Ads or Tracking. Works verry well.
  • Tubular: A fork of NewPipe with SponsorBlock features and other things. It's a free lightweight Youtube frontend for Android.
  • VLC: Video and audio player that supports a wide range of formats, for both local and remote playback.
  • WireGuard: Android client for WireGuard VPN, which is a modern and minimalist alternative to protocols such as OpenVPN and IPSec.
  • Xtra: Twitch client for Android. It's possible to connect it to your Twitch account.
