Being able to pass in an error handler or error_out flag etc to raise errors could be useful.

I think it would be useful to use dependency injection to pass in a custom logger object and get detailed feedback about the process (although big loops might clutter this up).

See readme for example - merging individual data items it might be beneficial not to nest these, just put the data at the top level as a single element.

In a similar way to how Go returns a status with everything, I think it could be useful to return a status message alongside the data.
