ROSE can't be recursively cloned, which is outside of our control. If you make a shallow clone of Pharos, it will add the proper submodules for you (non-recursively) during the configure process.

In that case maybe it would be a good idea to leave a note somewhere on how to properly clone repo?

Well why are there submodules at all given that build.bash clones them again anyway?

Originally, we required everyone to install the required libraries manually. build.bash was built with this build process in mind. Later, we added the capability to automatically build ROSE and z3 if they were missing, which is what the submodules are used for. We could probably eliminate the submodules and replace them with a git clone command. We'll look into it.

While the recursive cloning errors still have an open ticket at the ROSE project, we've removed the submodules from our repository, so our repository now clones recursively with no errors. thanks for reporting this bug.
