As of July, 2023 this module is deprecated. terraform-aws-s3-website offers little value beyond the terraform-aws-s3-bucket module, so Cloud Posse is phasing out support for this project. Users are advised to migrate to terraform-aws-s3-bucket to manage the S3 bucket (including logging) and terraform-aws-route53-alias to register the website hostname in Route53. Feature requests should be directed to those modules.

Terraform module to provision S3-backed Websites. IMPORTANT: This module provisions a globally accessible S3 bucket for unauthenticated users because it is designed for hosting public static websites. Normally, AWS recommends that S3 buckets should not publicly accessible in order to protect S3 data from unauthorized users.

Important

In Cloud Posse's examples, we avoid pinning modules to specific versions to prevent discrepancies between the documentation and the latest released versions. However, for your own projects, we strongly advise pinning each module to the exact version you're using. This practice ensures the stability of your infrastructure. Additionally, we recommend implementing a systematic approach for updating versions to avoid unexpected changes.

The module does not adhere module.this.enabled (Resources do not have a count attribute: https://github.com/cloudposse/terraform-aws-s3-website/blob/master/main.tf#L38).

Expected Behavior

When module.this.enabled=false, no resources should be created.

Changes to default S3 settings cause module to fail

Pardon my improper form, but changes to the default settings for S3 buckets are causing this module to fail:

'Starting in April 2023, Amazon S3 will change the default settings for S3 Block Public Access and S3 Object Ownership (ACLs disabled) for all new S3 buckets.'

It results in this error:

Error: Error creating S3 bucket: InvalidBucketAclWithObjectOwnership: Bucket cannot have ACLs set with ObjectOwnership's BucketOwnerEnforced setting

  • cloudposse/s3-log-storage/aws depends on cloudposse/s3-bucket/aws, which requires v4 of the AWS Provider
  • context.tf is still using null-label 0.24.1. instead of 0.25.0

Expected Behavior

This module should use the latest version of the aforementioned dependencies

  • Latest dependencies should be used
  • tenant label cannot be used because null-label 0.25.0 is not used

Failed to query available provider packages when using AWS provider 4.48.0

Describe the Bug

I am getting the following version error when using cloudposse/s3-website/aws version 0.17.3 with:

I saw here the restriction was added and here it should work.

The module logs doesnt take var.tags as input. Therefore, user-defined tags cannot be injected into s3 bucket for logging created by this module has only default tags.
