I would like to know what the reason is for the inversion use of values of the tree->cmp in 294 and 354 lines.

In accordance with common use (a quote from cppreference.com is below):

comp - comparison function which returns ​a negative integer value if the first argument is less than the second, a positive integer value if the first argument is greater than the second and zero if the arguments are equal.

but according to the repo:
dir = tree->cmp ( q->data, data ) < 0;
What means inversion.
