E-commerce Back End

  • Why was this project built?:
    To keep an inventory/stock of products.
  • What problem does this project solve?:
    Unorganized inventory, and unnecessary product loss.
  • How will a user utilize this project?
    By creating a database of products, tags, and categories that properly stores and sorts important product information.
  • Future development plans:
    Integerate a front-end that makes creating and updating database more user friendly.

Installation

  • Clone repository to local machine
  • npm init
  • npm install mysql2
  • npm install sequelize
  • npm install dotenv
  • mysql -u root -p
  • SOURCE db/schema.sql
  • use ecommerce_db
  • Quit mysql
  • npm run seeds
  • npm start

Set Up Sequelize

WHEN I add my database name, MySQL username, and MySQL password to an environment variable file
THEN I am able to connect to a database using Sequelize

Seed Database

WHEN I enter schema and seed commands
THEN a development database is created and is seeded with test data

Set Up Server/Sync Database

WHEN I enter the command to invoke the application
THEN my server is started and the Sequelize models are synced to the MySQL database

Set Up Get Routes

WHEN I open API GET routes in Insomnia for categories, products, or tags
THEN the data for each of these routes is displayed in a formatted JSON
