er605v2_openwrt_install's Issues

speed limit from ISP

On the stock firmware from the provider, I always had 950-980MB/s. With this firmware, the maximum I can squeeze out is about 350MB/s... How can I overcome this?

a small question

How do you know the third step in the installation steps? Is there any manual or link? Thank you very much.

What web page ?

Which web page is referred here:

10. Follow the steps on the web page. You can find a sysupgrade image at [https://downloads.openwrt.org](https://downloads.openwrt.org). Click [here](https://downloads.openwrt.org/releases/23.05.0/targets/ramips/mt7621/openwrt-23.05.0-ramips-mt7621-tplink_er605-v2-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin) to download the v23.05.0 sysupgrade image.

Can we have a link ?

Feedback on installation instructions

Hi @chill1Penguin,

thanks for your instruction, I managed to install OpenWrt to V2.0 device.

Some feedback from my side, where I struggled a bit:

  1. I was a bit confused with the needed images. A link to to the sysupgrade image would be perfect, I found a link in the other issue.
  2. As mentioned in #1, the linked backup script does not work. Probably because you don't get a direct shell, when you login through SSH. Therefore I downgraded from v2.1.2 to v2.0.1, which worked pretty well.
  3. I had problems with the root password for the SSH access. I created a user with username root on the initial configuration. Although I entered this in the password script, I could not login. Only after creating a user with username admin the created password was correct. Maybe the logic is a bit different, because the length is different. Maybe you could a hint on using admin in the Web UI.
  4. Since I ran this script on a Windows machine within WSL, a had problems with downloading the scripts. That's probably because the WSL installation has another network interface (with a different subnet) than the host network. Because I already downgraded to v2.0.1 firmware, I could just use a scp command, to directly copy the files to the device.
  5. The sysupgrade throwed erros, but with the mentioned sysupgrade -v openwrt-sysupgrade.bin it worked.

Query about using your process with different hardware versions of ER-605

Hi Chill1Penguin,
This is a great guide. It makes sense and you've clearly made the process about as easy as it can be, in the absence of a custom DTS.

My question is about different hardware versions. It seems like TP-Link simultaneously sell v. 1.0, 1.6, 2.0, and 2.6, or at least there has been some very long-lasting old stock in sales channels. It isn't entirely clear to me whether you know, or think, or do not think, that your excellent process will work on v. 1.0 or 1.6 hardware.

I have looked at the hardware specs and they are similar except for failover to a USB datamodem on the v2.x... But there are v2 indications all over the firmware and your code. Can you let us know what you think on this?

Even if not, thanks, we're grateful for your work on this platform.

CLI Debug password not working

As per title the debug password isn't working for me. I have noticed that it doesn't change if the username changes (not sure if that is desired behavior). Any suggestions or updates are welcome.

How to do mtd backup on firmware 2.1.2

I'm seriously considering installing Openwrt on my ER605 F/w version 2.1.2 but would like to have a backup of the mtd partitions. However, since v 2.1.2 requires additional commands ( enable & debug ) together with an additional password to get to a shell with root permissions the script suggested in the readme won't work. I thought about the possibility of using a usb stick to save the backup locally but cant seem to find where the stick is mounted.
Anyone have any suggestions as to how to get an mtd backup ?
Thanks
Ian
