It's not a polite thing to offer a option and this option to be disabled. Other than that it's huge ignorance to close a opened issue without SOLVING it first.
Whatever option I toggle, the subtitles notebook page is staying inactive. Already read #7 and there is no such option in Curlew 0.1.21.
Hi, i'm recently using a lot your software Curlew on arch linux and I'm very satisfied, your software is very fast and full of features. Thank you. I'd ask you if you could add the possibility to show a total conversion time estimate (for entire queue).
The interface don't work, when selected format video. the bug is next.
Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_device_grab_remove: assertion `GDK_IS_DEVICE (device)' failed.
Kubuntu 12.04 is my OS.
I'm grateful to those involved in the development of this program as i wanted to do one similar to this as i am an ex-windows user who loves format factory and would like something similar to it in linux but unfortunately don't have the programming skills to do it.
1] alternative 'start conversion' button - looking at the gears icon, i keep thinking its the settings/preferences icon and have mistakenly clicked it multiple times, so would like to suggest a play icon.
2] format drop down categories - possibly categorizing the entries into groups would be easier to navigate. example group names might be named after the device it is to play on. ex. general, web browser, mobile phone, mp3 player, game console, dvd player
1] file information - it would be nice to be able see a selected files information by right-clicking. this can be achieved with mediainfo < http://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo >
2] copy track - 'Copy Mode' is available in the format drop down, but sometimes i would just like to copy the video and re-encode the audio.
3] processing internal subtitles - i watch alot of anime in mkv format and sometimes i want to convert them to avi format with either hardcoded subtitles < https://trac.ffmpeg.org/wiki/How%20to%20burn%20subtitles%20into%20the%20video > or have it extracted as an .srt file.
1] unable to select mencoder in converter drop down though its installed
I was searching for a good avconv frontend, and I think I've found it : Curlew is an attractive, simple and in one word - great - app. Thank you ! Congratulations for this work !
As I was trying to reencode a mkv to avi, with subtitles, some little enhancement ideas showed up :
1 - A full custom option : in "format menu", an option that will let us choose container, audio and/or video encode, subtitle etc etc etc. I was not able to find any way to achieve this but maybe I did not search enough ?
2 - Curlew doesn't recognize SSA subtitles at the moment, is it planned ?
3 - More harcoded subtitles options ("embed in frame" option ?)
4 - An accurate "time passed" info : actually, not sure why, curlew "seems" quite slower than others frontends I tried (Hybrid), which is not normal as the other ones use avconv as well. So I think I'm wrong and maybe Curlew run faster that what it showed up.
Sorry for my approximative english and, anyway, keep up the good work !
hi there,
would it be possible to add support for the m4b audiobook format?
this format is useful for ipods and other i devices.
also m4b audiobooks keep the last place you stopped playing the book.
thanks!
Majid Hussain
There are some errors occured.
Do you want to show more details?

currently curlew will convert the input file if it is the same format as output file, an example.
you have a bunch of files one of them is .opus your output is set to opus also.
it will convert the file.
would it be possable to prevent same file format conversions?
if a audio file with the same format is converted again, you get audio degradation
thanks,
Majid Hussain
Currently to do this you have to edit an existing profile and save it under a different name; it would be easier if there was a simple button.
example:
you have a folder named test.
inside that folder is the folders named test1, test2, test 3.
inside the 3 test folders inside the test folder are some audio files.
having the option to mirror the imput folder layout would be very useful.
in other words, the main folder named test would be recreated along with the sub folders named test 1, test2, and test3.
in the output destination.
I would be so greatfull if you could impliment this?
maybe in the more options tab of the advanst menu?
thank you for considdering my request.
hi there,
when i choose the m4a audio format I can't change the bit-rate from 112k to another one say 32 kbps or 64 kbps.
could it be made that the bit-rate, audio frequency could be changeable?
also unable to change the audio channels from 2 to one could this option be enabled?
thanks,
Majid Hussain

The “Waqf” General Public License does not appear to be free/libre and open source, as it seems incompatible with definitions of both “free software”
The freedom to run the program as you wish, for any purpose (freedom 0).
and likely also “open source”.
The license must not restrict anyone from making use of the program in a specific field of endeavor. For example, it may not restrict the program from being used in a business, or from being used for genetic research.
In spite of that, the “Waqf” General Public License states that the user “may not use it to harm others or violate the permissive principles of Islam”.
Unless this is a wrong translation, or I have missed something crucial, I would like to ask that you remove any mention of this being free/libre software from the README file, as well as the project's website.

when I tried to convert this file:
Jaguar Attacks Crocodile (EXCLUSIVE VIDEO).mp4
it won't work.
but renaming and removing ( ) to say jaguar.mp4 curlew can work.
bash seems to be complaining.
This is a terrific program! Congratulations.
I have the following problem: I am trying to convert a file using subtitles (srt format) but the Subtitle tab appears grayed, so I can't select it.
Do I need an external program installed in order to activate this tab? Or this is a future feature not implemented yet? Convert videos work fine, but I can't select subtitles to add.
I am using Xubuntu 13.04, Python 2.7.4. The problem exists in Curlew 0.1.18.4 and 0.1.19.1 (I've updated from 0.1.18.4 to 0.1.19.2 in order to fix the problem but the problem persists)
So, what about add saving of window position and size to make Curlew show window with same position and size next time?
Whatever option I toggle, the subtitles notebook page is staying inactive. Already read #7 and there is no such option in Curlew 0.1.21.
would it be possable if curlew could convert more than one file at once?
currently, curlew converts one file before going on to the next one it would speed up convertions if more than one file could be converted.
this would be dependant on how many cores you have.
maybe changeable as to how many parallel jobs can run at once?
if you could add this feature it would make my year.
thank you for considdering my request.
I use curlew to transcode many audio files.
thanks for curlew :)
Hi, I tried to add -preset veryslow
or -profile:v high
in "other options" in order to get a smaller file and a better quality but every combination returns a blank error. I think that this option cannot coexist with bitrate option. Will you add a better error log and an option to change preset and profile instead of bitrate?
Thank you for your work.

Hi, when I convert videos with multiple audio, only one audio track can be left. Should you add the possibility to convert all the audio of the file? Thank you
Hi. Will you please add tags for every stable release? Will help a lot. I'm willing to add it to Fedora Utils for easy installation in Fedora.

hi there,
would it be possible to make it so that curlew is able to be ran more than once?
it would make it so that more than one file could be converted at one time, saveing time.
unless curlew is able to convert more than one file at one time?
I hope you will considder my request :)
Majid
this is useful if someone want only to split (edit....) a file without convert it
Hello,
You should distribute your application as a flatpak. It would allow many users to install it on a easier and secure way.
Hi
First of all congrats on your opensource project. I like curlew.
However I can not convert mp4 to webm with curlew. I am on ubuntu 13.10 32 bit platform. I thought it's related to ffmpeg configure flag an recompiled the latest version with "--enable-gpl --enable-libx264 --enable-libvorbis --enable-libvpx --enable-nonfree --enable-libmp3lame --enable-libfaac --enable-libtheora --enable-libxvid --enable-pthreads --enable-postproc --disable-debug --enable-shared" flags and installed But problem still exist. I can convert mp4 to webm in terminal like "ffmpeg -i input.flv -vcodec libvpx -acodec libvorbis output.webm"
Command line #1:
avconv -y -i /home/_/Desktop/LFS/LFS-7.4/LFS 7.4 - 2.1 vii. Host System Requirements (video 1).mp4 -f webm -b 1100k -r 30 -vcodec libvpx -ab 128k -ar 44100 -acodec libvorbis /home/_/Desktop/LFS 7.4 - 2.1 vii. Host System Requirements (video 1).webm
