netrobots's Issues

protocol

Is the protocol somewhere documented?
I'm also a bit confused, are you allowed to query a couple of parameters and then send your next move to the server which will execute that command when all commands from all bots are received or does it run and react real-time to user commands. (and if it's the latter, how do you limit the amount of scan commands that can be sent?)

Why wasn't opted for sending a struct of parameters (the eventual results from scan, shoot and your x,y and movement speed) instead of the current solution (different commands to get your x, y position and your movement speed,...)?

I'm interested in re-writing the server in another language to allow deploying on windows too and rewrite robots.c in a few other languages.

No graphics display?

Just tried building it on a macOS Catalina (10.15.4) with Cairo just freshly installed (brew install cairo), and it compiles and runs, but there's no battle showing in the GUI window. It comes up, and it's clearly cycling the battles (console output indicates when robots die), but there's nothing going on in the window. Any ideas what the issue would be?

NCurses version not working properly

Launching the server remotely uses the NCurses libcaca version of SDL for drawing the arena. There is no way to understand in that interface what a robot is, where is it's turret pointing to and when is firing.

Perhaps a simpler NCurses interface without using libcaca, but with some simple characters and colors would suffice.
