You can't. The image has to be a square because the models are trained on square images. Size of -1 will never work.

Well it seems to do something, I get person detection.. just no colored detection rectangle in the resulting detection images.

Yes. I've just made 2 square ones that overlap a bit to cover the full rectangle. It works quite well, though I'm sure it would work better with many smaller overlapping rectangles, as the ideal is to get the person filling much of the rectangle for optimum recognition. But it does a good job even with just 2 filling the whole frame.
