imgbrd-grabber's Issues

Downloading image files result in an error

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Set up your folder to save in, and the save tags.
2. Do a search of any site.
3. Batch download, or save and close a single file.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I expect it to download all files correctly. It instead puts out an error.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Using version 1.3, Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.

Please provide any additional information below.

some ideas/request/improvement

Here I will submit a few ideas that might improve the SUPERB grabber!!
2 of them :

1.a simple one (I think) :
could it be possible to have an option so that the saved file have its original/server date, and not my computer date.
(using 'down them all', the file date is always the original date)
sinc e not everybody might be happy with that an on/off option would be the best.

  1. a more complicated one (maybe):
the idea come from another download tool for booru sites (I forgot the name of that program)

1st : when downloading new files, the program use the md5 to compare the files. this way, even if the names are different, it does not download duplicates.

2nd : if the file already exist with an other name, there is an option that will change the existing file name to the new nomenclature (it update all existing files with the new filename the user put in it's option).

3rd : this option is also very useful when downloading from different sites in the same directory (like danbooru & gelbooru, which share lot of identical images!). the md5 are identical between the 2 sites (I verified). that would be useful to avoid downloading twice the same pictures. (then, maybe we would need an option to select the order the different site are visited by Grabber)

If my explanation are too obscure, I can explain in french too ;)

p.s. : by 'md5' I mean the very long alphanumerical sequence (like this 1c1c858c21191900484ffc782edf526f.jpg). I am not 100% sure, but my memory tell me that it was this 'md5' that the program use to identify the files. it work like an file ID card, right?

Issues with version 2.4.0

OS: Windows 7 64bit (updated excluding SP1).

I'm using the latest version of the program but there are several issues and some of which were not even existent in previous versions... These issues include:

  1. If you delete and add a new batch job then start it, the program will crash.
  2. If you cancel a batch job, downloads will be cancelled too unlike in previous versions where downloads ran in the background.
  3. If you edit and start a batch job, the program will crash. This one is annoying as I have to reopen the program each time I want to start a new batch download.
  4. You can't add a page beyond 1000.

Again, thanks for your great work.

%website% token invalid

Employing %website% in the filename setup (Options/Save) returns an empty
result in the actual filename. True for all image boards. Holds true in all
permutations I've tried, with %website% - %filename%.%ext% being the simplest.

Bunch of things

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
imgbrd-grabber 1.9.3 / Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit

Main:

Bug - When searching it shows preview pictures only after all of them
downloaded, it would be alot better if it showed them as they are downloading.

Bug - I doesnt seem to clear cache when closing window. If i use it for long
time it use about 1.5gb of ram and it usually crashes about then. (Maybe make a
limit for cache)

Sug - When previewing images gets cut over top and bottom if they dont fit.
please add a toogle to just resize(it will be a lot smaller but still...)

Sug - Please add tabbed searching.

Sug - Why dont you just combine normal search bar and date search bar. Just add
choose button and change date buttons at right of bar. When choosing a date
(like this 06/28/2011) program recognizes it as a date and searches for date.
For those who just want to open program and see days images, make it so that
searching empty opens days images. People who want to search empty can just
search after pressing space(it opens same after all)?(or you can make opposite).

Sug - Put up and down arrow buttons at page selection which just searches for
next page instead of clicking that small up and down buttons then clicking OK
button

Sug - And please just delete that "Results" text, it just takes space

Sug - Maybe make that sources window open at bottom like a status bar. This way
people can change web sites on the run (danbooru.donmai.us make it Danbooru or
Dan?)

Sug - It would be alot better if tags showed at left just like
danbooru(especially if it can be scrolled for images with a lot tags.)

Image:

Bug - Sometimes tag look as a long list of gibberish but when i save them there
is no problem at filename

Bug - And it seems sometimes images show empty but i can save them properly (I
noticed they are all png files. I have new adobe master collection can it be
cause?)

Sug - It would be alot better if tags showed at left just like
danbooru(especially if it can be scrolled for images with a lot tags.)
It would even more awesome if you can put it in Main window adn that i would
show most used tags like it is in danbooru (with a toggle)

Sug - In more details window only image link is shown not real page at website.
Please add it until at least we can use pools.

Sug - An autodownload feature would be awesome too.

Favorites:

Bug - It sometimes crashes when removing favorites(from image window)

Other:

Sug - Maybe adding an offline viewer that searches your folder and shows images
just like in main window

Sorry it seems i wrote a lot.

Thanks for awesome program. I really helped me a lot:D

Memory Leak

What steps will reproduce the problem?

  1. Continuously using the program without closing it.
  2. Downloading a lot of links/images.
  3. I think logging increases RAM usage even if disabled.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Efficient memory utilization.

Latest version. Windows 7 64-bit.

WildCritters: missing search results?

At the top of the search window, Grabber lists the current and total pages, and the number of results (X out of Y). While using the program with wildcritters.ws, I noticed that these numbers were pretty far out of whack, like (78 out of 129) in an artist batch I just did.

The results number isn't always exact, but it usually seems to be something like plus or minus 2. The program is somehow dropping up to half of the search results, and seems to do so increasingly starting around 70 hits and up (only 581 total out of 1040 when searching 'hat'). Searches with fewer than 20
results seem to be unaffected.

I've tried it with and without login (shouldn't be required, even for adult). I've counted the results out manually on the web site, and confirmed their total numbers are correct. I've also tracked down some of the images that failed to appear/download, and they were just basic jpegs with no distinguishing traits. Nor am I using a blacklist.

I'm not sure if this is unique to WC, or if it might be indicative of a more general problem with the downloader. In any case, I was hoping you might have some better ideas about this, if you might find a moment to look into it at your convenience ^^

Unicode characters in results and filenames

(I have a vague recollection of typing this issue up last week, but I can't
find it here, and I think I got distracted by the WC password issue. But
apologies if this is a repeat ~_~ )

There's some odd behavior when the program tries to handle unicode characters.
The most simple example I can find is when a board has the pokémon tag
(wildcritters, e621): it displays in the program and outputs to filenames as
"pokémon".

This also happens to Japanese characters...for example, changing ビボル into
 .

When performing a search, these characters display correctly in the mouseover
'alt-text' of the search results. When I load an image into the viewer, it
displays correctly at the top of the screen for a few seconds, while the search
terms are all uniform black. But when it switches the artist/copyright/etc tags
to different colors, it then displays these characters incorrectly.

Running XP SP3, duplicated on 2 machines.

Proxy support?

Just thought I'd throw this out there. It would be nice to be able to use
SOCKS5 proxies.

Huge bonus if we can customize DNS settings, and/or force requests to go
through the proxy as well.

Download Manager

A few thoughts about the functionality of the Downloads page:

My biggest suggestion is to do something with finished downloads. It's a little confusing when they don't change at all once they've downloaded, and will try to download again if one doesn't delete them manually.

Auto-removal might be the easiest optionto implement, but changing the color or striking out the text might provide some useful information about what's just been downloaded, as long as they don't re-queue like they do right now. A column with % completed would be an even more advanced implementation of this (and might allow moving the functions of the "Batch Download" popup into the main Downloads window, sort of like a torrent client).

Also: right now there's only an option to clear the entire list. Deleting selected groups (finished or queued) would be a handy little feature, and would make the queue list a lot more functional.

Focus of clicks lost in Grabber window/controls when using Wacom tablet

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Install latest Grabber for Windows on Windows 7 64-bit

2. Use a Wacom Intuous 2 (or other model) tablet with Grabber for mouse
operations

3. Initial click in Grabber window will "take" as expected, but subsequent
clicks are not recognized or recognized randomly within the application's
primary window. Changing focus by clicking outside of Grabber and then back
within the Grabber window allows for that next click to be recognized properly,
but then subsequent clicks are scrambled again after that initial click after
changing window focus

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

I would expect the Grabber window to respond directly to mouse clicks using the
Wacom tablet and pen devices, similar to how it works within other Windows
applications when used instead of a regular mouse. Testing reveals that a
regular mouse (using USB port) works fine with Grabber on the same system -
it's only a problem in recognizing the Wacom pen and tablet inputs.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

Latest Grabber, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit with latest MS fixes/device
drivers.

Please provide any additional information below.

If it's any consolation, I find that Firefox Save dialogs act much the same way
as Grabber does, in this case. But, those are the only two apps with such
problems that I've found when using Wacom tablets.

Blacklist not applied to downloads

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Add tag to blacklist
2. Generate page with images with blacklisted tag
3. Notice the warning working and ignore images working properly (if checked in
options)
4. Download the page (notice correct 'false' setting for download images with
blacklisted tags) and go to the download location

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Notice that all images have been downloaded, even the ones with blacklisted
tags. Expected output is only the non-blacklist images.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
2.1.1, Win7

Please provide any additional information below.

Tags with colon will result in download failure

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Set %id% %all%.%ext% as filename
2. Download a picture with tag :d or :o. Like
http://danbooru.donmai.us/post/show/976422#image
3. It can't be downloaded and left a 0 byte file. I can't delete this file.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Colon can't be used in a filename in windows. So download is failure.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Grabber v2.2.1 (windows) and windows7 64bit.

Please provide any additional information below.
I think you should make grabber to auto delete the colons. And why not provide
a option "replace blank spaces in tags with underscores" which just like
danbooru downloader.

Runaway filename lengths

I had some trouble this morning with files being created whose names were so
long as to be invalid (couldn't move, delete, rename, etc. without shortening
the directory name).

After a lot of tinkering to see what was causing this, I believe it was using
the %general% token--believing it would be shorter than %all%. In some cases it
is (images with character/copyright tags), but the %general% names kept coming
up long enough to put them over the 254 limit. What happens is that the %all%
tag is truncated based on the length of the PATH name, but the %general% tag is
not adaptive in this way. Using a mask of %artist% - %general%, the images with
the longest tags can reach 245+ characters.

The file names were consistent in length and reproducible. There were usually
1-3 files over 255 on any given 20-image page at e621.

I'm not sure how far the long names with %all% are truncated (i.e. how much
buffer is allowed), but some of them can still be quite long, if saved
initially to a short directory. This limits where they can be moved later; I
personally have a pretty deep folder structure for my images. It might be nice
to have an option for setting a hard limit on filename lengths, since there's a
lot of variance involved.

Blacklist not applied to downloads in 2.2.0

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Add tag to blacklist
2. Generate page with images with blacklisted tag
3. Notice the warning working and ignore images working properly (if checked in
options)
4. Download the page (notice correct 'false' setting for download images with
blacklisted tags) and go to the download location

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Notice that all images have been downloaded, even the ones with blacklisted
tags. Expected output is only the non-blacklist images.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
2.2.0, Win7

Thanks for the effort but the issue 19 is still there (wasn't sure if you read
closed issues).

I reinstalled to 2.2.0 and tried the same procedure above several times. Again
it downloaded 20/20 and didn't ignore the ones with blacklisted tags. The
setting was false (but I also tried true, same result, so that's not it). When
saving as %all% you can clearly see the files with blacklist tags in their file
name being saved, but when browsing the images are hidden properly (so
blacklist works when browsing just not when downloading). I also tried
resetting/retyping the blacklist.

It must be something with the check when processing downloads. When processing
next image, it should check for blacklist tags one by one and ignore, not even
bother starting download if the image has at least one of them.

I like your program very much, there's a lack of this kind of thing (at least
with as broad of a support for websites). I'll make sure to post any other
issues if encountered.

Translation tools? (and another question)

I wished to try the translation to japanese of this program.

Is it on another page? and are interested in a japanese translation?
(ps : Grabber crash when you change the language in the option)

my other question :
are you open to ideas or wishes from user?

Minor UI Enhancements

I had a few very minor ideas that occurred to me while I spent way too much time using the program this week, which didn't fit elsewhere. These have cropped up enough to provoke some consideration, but mostly about convenience for long-term usage. Any of these that are worthwhile could be safely relegated to the back burner.

  1. Could we have a keyboard shortcut for the Options dialog? CTRL+O is taken, but any old letter would do ^^
  2. On my XP machine, the in-program tab switching shortcut (CTRL+TAB) switches between three of the tabs, but gets 'stuck' on Favorites. Could this be cleared up, or the key made to just switch back and forth between Search and Downloads?
  3. In the Search window, it might be desirable to automatically set the page to 1 when a new search is entered. This would mimic the behavior of the web booru, and would save confusion over 'no results' when people like me forget they left it on a high page #. And for the instances when we need to jump directly to page-N of a new search, it could be easily changed from 1 before the search is
    started.
  4. For when 'automatically save images' is off, maybe add a dedicated 'close' button to the Image Viewer, and/or close via ESC?
  5. 'Number of columns' in the Options and the Search + (extended options) doesn't have any effect that I've been able to see. Perhaps a dead feature, or perhaps I'm missing something?

And many thanks, as always. I've been downloading like a maniac this month, and the program keeps getting better! :3

e621: tag types not recognized

The %artist% token always outputs the 'anonymous' string to filename (i.e.
cannot find the artist). The same is true when using %character%, and
%copyright%.

In all three cases, the tags are visible in the search results, and in the
filename with %all%.

%search% + status:deleted

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.in options : using filename "%search%\danbooru\[%artist%] %id% (%copyright%)
%md5%.%ext%"
2.search with tag 'status:deleted' on danbooru.
3.process to download : files download but are not saved, resulting in X errors
(x = number of files found)

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The ':' in the tag seems to be the origin of the problem.
Log : Error:impossible to create the destination folder : ...

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
2.4.0 on windows 7

Please provide any additional information below.
This program is a dream come true!

Ponibooru support

The URL for the board is ponibooru.413chan.net, and it's Shimmie based. So far,
despite all attempts, it fails to return any results regardless of the search
terms... I dunno what I'm doing wrong, it's not even giving an error. I just
used the inbuilt site adder to add it.
