When I run this example, at first the ipynb shows the LateX rules!!! text, but then when I re-run the bottom chunk (several times), I see the following error:

Thanks for the repo. It was very useful for me.

I had problems when trying to use latex on matplotlib in jupyterlab/binder. A message "RuntimeError: latex was not able to process the following string" arised.

I think changing the apt.txt as showed in the this comment from official Jupyter-Hub issues may solve the problem.

I don't know if this file generates other types of bug but it seems to work.

Hi,

there are multiple issues of why the jupyterlab/latex included in this binder example does not work w/ current version of repo2docker:

1. there are annoying compatibility issues between jupterlab and jupyterlab_latex + jupyterlab/latex when using repo2docker,
2. jupyterlab/latex defaults to xetex (already mentioned in #5 (comment)),
3. there is a missing figure included in sample.tex.

Note: all these go under point 1. in #4 (comment) .

Noticing that some of my latex magics appear to have stopped working following rebuilds after a bi derhub update

Currently it seems that @jupyterlab/latex fails to build w/ jupyterlab version equal or higher than 1.0 (cf. #9 and jupyterlab/jupyterlab-latex#135 ). Once this is resolved at the extension side, would be best to unpin both jupterlab and jupterlab_latex in environment.yml file and @jupyterlab/latex in postBuild file, or at least increase to anything closer to latest versions (ATM of writing jupyterlab==2.1.5, jupterlab_latex==2.0.0, @jupyterlab/[email protected]).
