engram-es's Issues

Discussions tab?

Hello there!

Arno, thanks for forking the project to create the engram-es layout.

Where should we communicate? I just noticed there is no discussion tab in this repo.

Again, anything we can do to help, just tell us.

Problem using the windows keyboard

Discussed in https://github.com/binarybottle/engram-es/discussions/36

Edit: solved. Windows needs rebooting when installing a new keyboard layout.

Hello there,

Maybe you guys can help me with this issue, having more experience than me.

I set up the engram-es windows keyboard layout in the Layout Creator, generated the dlls and installed using "setup.exe".

After installing it, it shows in the list of keyboards:

I can't seem to set it as the current kb, and even if I remove the QWERTY from this list, it still remains as the current keyboard.

I tried installing a couple more keyboards to test switching between them (Win + space switches keyboards on the fly):

And when I hit Win + space, I see a list of kbs on the right side of the screen, but engram-es is not there:

Of course I have done something wrong somewhere, but I have validated the layout in MS KLC and it only gave 2 warnings about duplicate keys ( ` and ^ ), no errors. So I'm left wondering what might be wrong.

Edit: somehow, at some moment in time, I've managed to switch to engram-es (with other 4 kbs installed) but I switched back to one of the others with win+space, and haven't been able to go back. That means engram-es is installed, but somehow is not displayed.

Edit 2: if I switch the keyboard in this panel, it seems to work:

It still doesn't show up in the win+space list.

Spanish variant

Spanish is one of the most spoken languages in the world. Yet, we really lack a specialized kw layout. We dont have any. Even the DVORAK variant are clueless of our letter frequency.
Would you be capable of doing a spanish engram variant, following all the same method?
You would make millions of typers very happy
Thanks

The install folders for Linux and Windows only contain a README

The repo is missing the installation files to be able to use the layout, I checked the engram repo (english variant) and that one contains a Makefile and xkb scripts.

engram: https://github.com/binarybottle/engram/tree/master/install/linux/x_keyboard_extension
engram-es: https://github.com/binarybottle/engram-es/tree/master/keymaps/linux

Can you please update the repo with the according files or give some guidelines on how to adjust the engram english files to fit the spanish version?

Thanks.

This question is a bit unrelated to the issue but I see ñÑ are missing in the layout, is this intentional?

Spanish variant with split optimization using US-International keyboard layout?

Big kudos to Arno to create an optimized layout for Spanish.

But in the investigation I see that you took into account the ISO design, one as a programmer and who also has to speak English, it would be good if the ANSI design was taken into consideration and optimized with the use of ortho or split keyboards.

Take for example keyboards like Corne, Lily58, Kyria, etc...

In the same way, I think that the implementation of the keys ¿, ` and ñ is a bit unnecessary. Because these keys can be programmed within a layer or just using the AltGR key.

u forgot add file in linux folder

/engram-es/keymaps/linux/ is empty

(interesting, how u add layer with AltG and, maybe, Level5).

P.S. This layout better, than Dvorak? I use HHKB, but planning 40% something, maybe Corne... And please, add to your site roadmap or something. How about Russian lang with your approach? IMO, this is amazing theme, set punctuation in center.
