Building Rev 2, Step 24 shows erroneous pic?
Building Rev 2, Step 24 says "add the female header to the line output to the Bela cape" which should be a 4-pin but the pic shows a 3-pin header. I suggest clarifying this step to say "add the 4-pin female header to the line output to the Bela cape" and show the correct pic.
PS I also added some comments to the BOM, in case it doesn't automatically notify you about it.
Pepper build suggestion
Recently finished the build but got step 11. wrong - attaching LED bar graph upside down.
That was quite challenging component to desolder and replace ( ended up ordering new one ).
Perhaps worth adding a note for beginners like me to make sure LED bar graph text and cut corner should be facing downwards.
Thanks
Diagnostics project
Create a project which can be run once the build is complete to test everything is working.
Loop back all outputs to inputs, CV and Audio. Cycle through LEDS. Print reading from buttons. For example of loop back code see the bela cape test: https://github.com/BelaPlatform/Bela/tree/master/examples/Extras/cape-test
Switch Power Header for 10-pin
This will require removing the corresponding 5V configuration pin.
RK09L1140A5P Potentiometer is Discontinued
Mouser has this listed as Obsolete
now and couldn't complete my order (Mouser cannot back-order them as they said they're discontinued, so I had to source them from Arrow who still has some left, albeit at very high shipping cost from Japan). Mouser support said there was no direct substitute, but I'm hoping that something else would be suitable and the BOM could be updated to reflect that https://github.com/BelaPlatform/bela-pepper/wiki/Bill-of-Materials .
Thanks all and awesome project, can't wait to get everything together to build mine! Mouser has been working on the parts order for me for a few months now trying to get it all together. If a kit were available for sale with all the necessary parts, that might be a nice way for less experienced builders to get going with this :)
Break out Bela's headphone output to a header
Similarly to the I2C connection, one may find it useful to have the native headphone output available to be able to use this as an output module.
Wiki Schematics and PCB rev2 links are broken
USB connection using breakout panel
In the build kit there is the panel for usb host and device. I thought there would be some easy access solder points or some pins that can be configured as usb on the beaglebone, but I cannot find that info anywhere.
I haven't found any documentation of how to install these ports either, and I am wondering if there is a method or if it is supposed to just be some kind of extension cables.
Anyway, would mean a lot easier access to programming the device when implemented rather than inserting it removing it from the case every time you need to debug a new patch.
audio outs are normalled to ground
the audio out jacks have the tip normalled to ground. They should be left floating, just like the analog outs
Turn off Pepper
If I put Pepper into my eurorack case and I can't push the off button on Bela how can I turn off Bela properly?
Move project files to KiCad
Make schematic available as an editable file for design reference
Silkscreen updates
- move pot outlines to the front of the PCB
- add resistor / capacitor values to the PCB
- clearer rev number
Connections for Illuminated Buttons
This would be an optional extra if using illuminated buttons, like in the Befaco DIY kits. The LEDs would be hardwired to the button or to the state of the inputs coming in through the trigger inputs. Extra protection resistor would be necessary between 3v3 and the LEDs.
Digital In/Out documentation
I am trying to find somewhere where the segment display and the buttons have their inputs/outputs documented. I am going through the DSP C++ coursework on YouTube and have difficulty using the digital I/O because nothing seems to correspond to what I think it does.
Is there an official documentation of Pepper-specific mapping of digital I/O?
