The same functionality could be implemented in SMK by adding a search radius to the identify tool, and a way to specify which layer identify is operating on.
The search circle could be shown on the map, and made editable if needed.

After playing with the search radius functionality, Im considering if having a tool on the toolbar that behaves the same as the 'near me' button on the identify panel would be useful. Thoughts?

@qqnluaq can you please post a demo link so i can review? i though i had one but cannot find it.
yes - i think both options are good. would probably only need to implement one per app depending on preference.
