sketch Badlands

Basin and Landscape Dynamics (Badlands) is a long-term surface evolution model built to simulate landscape development, sediment transport and sedimentary basins formation from upstream regions down to marine environments.

This program is a free software: you can redistribute it and/or modify it under the terms of the GNU Lesser General Public License as published by the Free Software Foundation, either version 3 of the License, or (at your option) any later version.

What’s in the box?

Badlands is an open-source Python-based code and can be used to simulate:

  • hillslope processes (linear & non-linear diffusion),
  • fluvial incision (Stream Power Law, Transport Capacity Law)
  • sediment transport and deposition,
  • wave-induced longshore drift transport,
  • reef growth and carbonate platform formation,
  • submarine gravity currents (turbidity currents),
  • spatially and temporally varying tectonic (horizontal + vertical displacements) and
  • effects of climate changes (rainfall) and/or sea-level fluctuations.

badlands-companion's Issues

Combining topographic surfaces

Hi all,

awesome project, super excited to dig my teeth in...I was wondering about this sentence from the topoCreate notebook in the companion folder on the docker image

"Combining these simple forms it is possible to create some complex geometries that will have the desired format for running a badlands simulation."

How would I go about doing this?

Installation problem

Hi,

I have been trying to install the software creating a new environment and then following the python installation instructions but when I run sudo pip3 install badlands I get this error:

Collecting badlands
Using cached badlands-2.2.4.tar.gz (174 kB)
Preparing metadata (setup.py) ... done
ERROR: Packages installed from PyPI cannot depend on packages which are not also hosted on PyPI.
badlands depends on meshplex@ git+https://github.com/kinnala/meshplex

Can you help me to solve it?

Best,
Lester
