Binary Backend: Question about dtype arg

Thanks for the great tutorial on building a binary backend. While reading the code, I stumbled upon the following line and wondered if it would not have to use the self.dtype argument.

" arr = np.fromfile(f, np.int64, offset=offset, count=count)\n",

So basically, the line would look like:

arr = np.fromfile(f, self.dtype, offset=offset, count=count)

Did I misinterpret how the dtype kwarg for the backend works?
