qtile-bonsai's Issues

Could you pls explain how to install this for non-Python-savvy users?

I've qtile installed through my distro package manager (pacman; I'm on Manjaro). That is, I haven't installed qtile from sources.
Not being a Python guy, I've no idea how to install qtile_tabbed; My distro refuses to run pip install in non managed environments and I've no idea how to approach this as a consequence. Is there a way to use your code in qtile without having to install qtile from sources or use pip install?

Disable Tabs

Hello, first of all i think this a great addon to Qtile its massively changing the wayi use my WM and i have to thank you for that.

I was wondering if there is a way to disable tabs, or at least to force only 1 tab per group. I already have a few groups and having tabs on top of groups feel like i need a few more keybindings.

I use a lot a "sticky window" that follows me throug groups, but when it comes into the Bonsai layout spanws as a tab, and then i have to merge it to the the previous tab, this also happens when i send a window from a group to another they are sent as tabs instead of splits.

or maybe im doing the moves throug groups wrong, as i used to do it with the past layouts

Thanks a lot

*edit: i added a bigger explanation.

flex-layout for tab bar items

Just documenting thoughts on some 🍚ing enhancements. Open to feedback.

Presently, the individual tabs in a tab bar are all of fixed width and controlled by the option tab_bar.tab.min_width. Most of the bar just remains empty (unless you rename your tab labels), which is more noticeable at larger resolutions. This was implemented way back when this was just a prototype.

I reckon a simple enhancement would be to have the tab items take up all available space and auto-adjust their widths, like in CSS flexbox. Though, If I look to web-browser tab bars, they seem to follow the current approach of fixed-width items.

If we do this, we'd need to figure out the right collection of config options to allow tweakability.

A bar widget that tracks tabs (and maybe subtabs)

It might be nice to have a bar widget that lets you see the available tabs and subtabs present. It would allow us to enable the option: tab_bar.hide_when = "always" and use the widget to track things instead of having the default tab bar take up some screen real estate.

Need to flesh out how this could work.
