Assignment 1a

In this assignment you will be setting up the software and online tools that you will be using throughout this course. Within the tools repository there are links and instructions to relevant sites. If you have any problems, you can tweet them using the hashtag #DSE16, or you can create an issue within this repository.

The first stop is to create the accounts we will be using:

  1. Start by creating a personal Github account if you do not already have one.

  2. Then create a Twitter account if you do not already have one.

  3. Next you will need to install the software we will be using (if you already have them installed make sure they are the latest versions). Links and instructions can be found in the Tools reporsitory for:

    • R
    • RStudio
    • Firefox
    • Zotero plugin for Firefox
    • Git
  4. Complete the user survey by 2/1/16 (Will be emailed out on 1/31/16)

  5. Once you have completed the survey, you can be added to the class Github organization and you will have full functionality within the course site.

  6. Now you can connect your Github account to your RStudio installation by following the istructions in the Tools repository.

  7. Download Zotero references file (there is a download zip button on the top right) and upload into Zotero
