Research work at DSE

Fork this repository and adapt it to your needs. You should find everything here that you will need to successfully complete your research work at our chair:

  • BSc/MSc thesis
  • Guided research
  • Interdisciplinary Project (IDP)

Note: As part of your BSc/MSc thesis, you will need to submit a thesis to the chair and the department (Prüfungsamt). Whereas, as part of Guided research/IDP, you will need to submit a report only to the chair.

Where to start

Take a look at the checklist to find out what you have to do for your research work. Overall, you will go through the following phases:

  • Pre-registration
  • Registration
  • Intermediate update
  • Final preparation
  • Submission

Submission

Your submission will proceed in the following five stages:

  • Stage 1 (Approval): At least two weeks before the submission deadline, please send a PDF copy of your thesis/report to your advisor and Prof. Bhatotia for their final feedback and approval.

  • Stage 2 (Formal submission): After their final approval, please submit the following:

    • [Required ONLY for BSc/MSc thesis work]: One printout of the final BSc/MSc thesis delivered to Prüfungsamt.
    • Final pdf to Prof. Bhatotia.
    • Final pdf to advisor.
  • Stage 3 (Final presentation): Please schedule and organize your final presentation talk in consultation with your advisor (see presentation instructions).

  • Stage 4 (Archive documents): After your final presentation, please add the following PDFs to the chair's archive repository by submitting a pull request.

    • Thesis/Report [PDF]
    • Presentation [PDF]
  • Stage 5 (Assessment): After the final upload of your thesis/report and presentation PDFs, please contact your advisor to submit their final assessment form (see below) to the chair secretary.

Assessment

  • Assessment criteria: The overall grade is based on the following four dimensions:

    • Research work
    • Implementation and evaluation
    • Thesis/Report write-up
    • Presentation
  • Assessment submission: The advisor must use the following form for the final assesment. Please send the assessement form along with Advisor's own CV to the chair secretary.

    • Assessment form
    • Note for Advisor's CV: We require CVs only for the external advisors. The staff members at the chair do not need to submit their CV.

Grading

For grading, the standard TUM grading scheme will be used. Please see the table below.
