Currently, the attendance system that we are following is manual. The teacher has to check and verify with the log book the roll numbers of the students that are present inside the classroom and note down those who are absent. The same procedure has to be repeated after every hour which takes a sheer amount of time from every hour that could have been spent more productively.

The attendance system could be automated, Every student has there Id cards with barcodes or NFC chips or both, this could be taken advantage of and some system could be implemented to automatically verify the roll numbers of the students who are present inside the class and report this to the class counsellors after every hour.

What is the issue that you are facing?
The current map at the entrance of the college is difficult to be figured out. People, especially parents, find it difficult to locate certain rooms and halls in the college, such as Campus director's office, Principal's office, Counsellor's department etc.

How often do you face this issue?
It is faced when people are new to the college, mainly the parents or relatives of students, visiting for the first time. It is mainly difficult during the class hours when there are less students and staffs nearby.

There can be a navigation system at the entrance of the college. The destination can be selected from the options provided and the route to the location can be displayed digitally.

Presently, any announcement to be made to the students are manually done in each class. An attender approaches each class to read out an announcement or give an information. This leads to problems like information not being uniformly informed to all students or staffs in case they have lab hours or free hours.

When people have to go home for holidays, many people might be going to the same place, but do not know who all are going.

I propose making a web or Android app in which while going home, people can update the date, time
and place where they are going. This way others going to the same place will also know and students can travel with people they know together in a group.

What is the issue that you are facing?
Every year new students are enrolled for different courses and there might be a need for buying books. But mostly the course books followed in our college are the same, for years. But due to lack of time and communication, students end up buying new books. It would be better if the books could be passed to the new course enrollees.

When I joined, I bought some of the books that seniors were already having and were useless for them.

Designing a web or an android app where a database record can be maintained for the books a person wants to sell and also the books a person wants. Then according to the contact details, people can contact each other and exchange books as per the availability.

What is the issue that you are facing?
During peak hours of the day, the internet connectivity from all the providers (I have found this with Jio, Airtel, Vodafone/Idea) is lost, though there is pretty adequate network coverage/range in the area.

How often do you face this issue?
Usually at peak hours between 7-12PM every day, or anytime when a majority of hostlers are on their mobiles.

Where do you face this issue?
Hostel, and sometimes in college.

Do you think, a lot of your friends face the same issue?
Yes, almost everyone, at some point in time. Sometimes, I too get lucky, but after some x active connections, I believe no one gets connected.

What have you tried to solve the issue?
Turning on and off the internet, and/or switching on and off Airplane mode for one/few times seems to fix the issue at times. Also, some networks are occasionally better, and since I have data with Airtel and Jio, sometimes switching carriers have helped (rarely).

What do you think is causing the issue?
If I am right, all cellular carriers have bandwidth limit on their spectrum, and within this limited bandwidth when their his high density and high intensity of traffic, it fails to perform.

Have you thought of any ideas that may solve the issue?
I don't know whether adding any towers would help, because carriers have this spectrum limitations anyway. Also, it would be a pretty big task to put up more towers here.

I think a lot of traffic could be moved to Amrita Connect if it opens up for mobile phones, as it can accommodate very high bandwidth. But there might be a breakthrough hardware/software/networking that can fix this, which will be globally beneficial as well.

What is the issue that you are facing?
I often buy some tetrapak drinks, chocolates, biscuits etc. from store opposite to ashram entry while going to college most mornings, and I find no drop-points for dropping off these anywhere before entering the campus (i.e. after 10mins of walk). I cannot wait in the shop to consume it completely and drop it there itself, as I would be pretty late for college then.

I feel its a burden to carry the finished tetrapak or wrapper in hand and walk till the college to drop it off and sometimes feel like dropping it in roadsides.

I feel its a serious issue because, if people don't find dustbins to put off waste, they likely throw if off somewhere, and someday, we ourselves need to pick these up. So, why can't we stop creating the mess?

How often do you face this issue?
I face it often when going to college from ashram side, as I usually gear-up for the day buying something from the store's opp ashram. Even when buying something from stores opposite college, I have to walk the whole way to ashram to dispose it.

I also find no wastebins anywhere in Vallikavu area, so buying anything means, I will need to walk either to college or ashram to drop it off (if I plan to walk while eating).

What is the issue that you are facing?

When we take into consideration the coverage area of the Campus where Students Commute, It covers a large area which includes the Ashram, the Bridge and all the collages. There are times when a student is instructed to go from point A to point B but they don't really know where point B is. Let's take an example, consider a Biotech student want to configure his/hers laptop with Amrita Connect, then they have to reach the ICTS office in the Engineering campus to get this done. But the catch is the Biotech student does not know where the ICTS office is as it is on a different campus.

This issue is mostly faced by Freshers as they are new to the campus and does not know where exactly different places are inside the Campus.

I have faced this issue during my initial college days when I had to figure out where the Accounts, Administrative office and CIR was so as to get some of my paperwork done.

The only feasible solution currently is to keep on asking people on the way how to reach the destination.

Lack of a proper map Application.

It would be nice if there was a map application which would allow students to input their required destination, which would direct them as google map does to the location they want. The catch here is that on top of what google map is providing we need to consider the floors on building to get the precise location. As the college has a distributed mesh wifi I think in addition to the in build GPS of the mobile phone of the student this would be helpful in determining the accurate location of the student.

Every time a courier comes, the department has to make note of the parcel manually. Also, the receiver has to visit the courier office repeatedly to check for his/her parcel.
