This project is not actively maintained. I'm occassionally updating the code to test things out, but the latest 'usable' snapshot of the old project is available at https://github.com/AllanWang/Frost-for-Facebook/tree/legacy. Until this is updated, the dev branch is not usable.

Note Some keystores are public for the sake of automatic builds and consistent signing across devices. This means that others can build apps with the same signature. The only valid download sources are through my github releases and F-Droid.

Frost is a third party Facebook wrapper geared towards design and functionality. It contains many features, including:

  • Support for multiple accounts and fast switching
  • Full theming across all activities
  • PIP videos
  • Overlaying browser to read posts and get right back to your previous task
  • Extensive notification support, with bundling, filtering, battery friendly scheduling, icons, and multi user support
  • Context menu from any link via long press
  • Native image viewer and downloader via long press
  • Reactive based loading
  • The transparency of open sourced development

Frost is the only third party Facebook app to have:

  • Transparent themes and a fully customizable theme engine
  • True multiuser support, along with multiuser notifications
  • Fully swipable overlays
  • Fully customizable tabs

Test builds can be found here. Note that these builds occur for every commit, including unstable ones. Typically, those merged into master are stable, and those merged into dev have been tested.

frost-for-facebook's Issues

Optimize loading queue

  • Load current page first
  • Load hidden helper views
  • Load background pages if preference allows it

Optimize loading across views

Currently, the page is reloaded with every new overlay trigger.

Try saving the html and loading it locally next time

Add better web overlay menu info

Simply copying the url is not enough. Replace it with an info button that opens a dialog displaying the actual information. Helps with debugging as well

Improve web loading visibility

Especially with status updates or other views linked with JS, the webview seems to hide itself and not appear again after loading is finished

Fix scrolling in main view

Many actions in the browser require horizontal scrolling, be it the cards or the long press emoticons.

Perhaps adding a listener to check if a long press has occurred should temporarily disable the viewpager scrolling

Chronological feed bug

As per reddit post,
feed might not be sorting chronologically.

Issue may just be a recent comment in an older photo, with the timestamp showing the photo date.

Enable saved queries

Allow users to save certain search queries which will be suggested whenever the input is empty. Doing so will remove all of the items shown by default through facebook
