Checking the code for saveAnnotation() in dist/aidaLocal.js
async function saveAnnotation (data) {

const filePath = 'data/annotations/' + imageName + '.json'
[...]
}
it seems that yes, the annotations file is expected to have the same name as the image.
Furthermore, just having the annotations file in the corresponding directory makes the connection with the image.
