Tempo control
Should be able to set numerically, in addition to tap and slider.
Feature wishlist
More preset patterns.
More kits. Some patterns require cowbell, conga, ride cymbal, tambourine...
Creative exercises and games. Adam's pattern-matching game using randomly selected beats from the presets. Ethan's genre-related programming exercises as described here: http://www.ethanhein.com/wp/my-nyu-masters-thesis/drum-patterns-and-exercises/
UI chrome. Typography, colors, layout.
Math mode. Put beat one on the right side and number the slices like so: http://www.ethanhein.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/funky-drummer-math-mode-cartesian.png and more sophisticatedly http://www.ethanhein.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/funky-drummer-math-mode-polar.png Let's attract the math teachers and STEM-obsessed parents!
Math-related exercises. I don't specifically know what form these should take. But there's no shortage of possibilities. Here's the overlap with the Common Core math standards. http://www.ethanhein.com/wp/my-nyu-masters-thesis/appendix-matching-the-drum-loop-to-new-york-states-mathematics-standards/
Velocity. Loud, medium, quiet.
default label should be 16th notes
Playback should always start on beat 1
I notice that when I start and stop playback, I don't actually want it to resume wherever it left off, I want it to restart on the downbeat, otherwise I get lost in the pattern.
Presets menu needs to be sorted into categories or submenus
Classic breaks; Afro-Cuban; genre boilerplate...
Sound selection
I've been operating this whole time under the assumption that drum kits would be rigidly defined sets of sounds. It never occurred to me to offer the option of letting people assign whatever sounds to each individual topping. This requires some further thinking about. Do we have a big menu with all the sounds divided into categories, that you can place arbitrarily on the rings? Do we also have specific kits, that you could then customize? A big question.
Add more presets
From Ethan's vast breakbeat collection, and Afro-Cuban patterns and claves
Closed hi-hat should cut off open hi-hat
Not because we need concern ourselves with what is physically possible on a drum kit, more just because it sounds odd to have the open hi-hat sustain over the next closed hi-hat.
Mislabeled Afro-Cuban rhythm
The thing that I thought was called Makongo is actually called Bembé.
